This movie did deliver the epic catchphrase, "Go ahead, make my day."
Aside from that, Eastwood's directorial debut of the series turned out to be a disappointing experience. -

Fourth entry in the Dirty Harry film franchise plays out like a revenge action thriller. After a rape victim takes out her revenge on her abductors, Harry Callahan is put on the case. Brilliantly directed by Clint Eastwood himself, Sudden Impact is one terrific piece of action ci... read more

"Go ahead, make my day" This is the fourth sequel in the Dirty Harry movies, and in my opinion I think it is one of the better ones. It reminded me a lot of the first film with the classic one liners and gritty action. I am not sure why critics rate this film lower then the other... read more

it was classic dirty harry until the end, when our justice seeker goes soft. the normal formula was there and the story was entertaining, but when we were waiting for justice to be served on all guilty parties, it didnt come. not the dirty harry we had come to expect.

Definitely a step up in quality from The Enforcer, Harry Callahan is back to doing what he does best. The whole ending sequence is amazing, there's nothing cooler than Clint Eastwood silhouetted against a carnival with a 44 Magnum. I think the plot worked very well for the most p... read more

This is quite bad. Dirty Harry is not the same person at all in this film. The core of the story is sound, it just has stupidisms all the way through like the farting dog. Is it a Dirty Harry film or Turner & Hooch, thank God Clint recovered from this. It probably has the worst s... read more

Wow, a movie with a female who's the major murderer....nice twist! All the Dirty Harrys rock, and this one was no exception, of course!

The fourth installment in the Dirty Harry franchise, but this one goes beyond the anti-hero story and teaches us, at the end, that killing for revenge is okay. Especially if it's done because of sexual assault and is actually encouraged if your sister is left a mute and practical... read more

Sudden Impact is Dirty Harry's forth adventure through the streets of San Francisco (though over half the movie takes place outside San Francisco). This time Insp. Callahan is after someone that's shooting people in the balls while dodging attacks from punks and the mafia.

Sudden Impact is the 4th of the Dirty Harry films and one of the best traits of these films is that they don't really degrade in quality from one film to the next. Thus, Sudden Impact provides another thrill ride through the life of Dirty Harry Callahan. This time Harry attempts ... read more
Critic Reviews
This is the first entry in the series to have been directed by Eastwood himself, and action is put over with great force, if also with some obviousness. Full Review
To all those cowboy movies we saw in our youth, all those TV Westerns and cop dramas and war movies, Dirty Harry has brought a great simplification: A big man, a big gun, a bad guy and instant justice. Full Review
By my count, more than a dozen people are murdered on camera, about half by Miss Locke and most of the others by Mr. Eastwood. This gives them something in common as lovers. Full Review
...stretches the believability factor to the limit, with a story that is all over the map. Full Review
A study of the Dirty Harry macho drive, worked out lucidly by the filmmaker and his avenging muse Full Review
The film lags whenever Eastwood isn't on screen, but even his dryly humorous patter can't offset the very sour, mean tone of the rest of the film. Full Review
Sadly, Clint was still sleeping with Sandra Locke and giving her work! The worse of the "Dirty Harry" films...didn't "make my day"
Eastwood the star needed a hit to bolster his flagging ratings; now that he's got it, maybe Harry will be put out to stud, with his Magnum. Full Review
Harry starts to parody himself with this one.
