I love Spider's bleakness, I love it's simplicity. It's never in your face which highlights certain important scenes brilliantly and more importantly, disturbs more convincingly. The performances were very good, Byrne in particular does a great job. Its not a typical Cronenberg f... read more

Spider is an incredibly subdued and well-paced drama of psychological horror and detached self-examination. The interesting thing about Spider is the uncertainty of the entire picture. From the opening, it's clear that director David Cronenberg knows exactly the kind of movie he... read more

Wow, this Movie is Brilliant. Ralphy Fiennes is Brilliant. Ralph Fiennes playing a paranoid-schizophrenic. At first I was tiny bit confused, but I was warned by a good friend long time ago when she recommended it to me so I was okay.

A really bizarre story that is incredibly Cronenberg in every way. Ralph Fiennes was completely perfect and gave an emotionally compassionate and gripping character. I loved the idea that the movie makes almost no linear sense until about the last 30min, it is such a great finale.

They don't really make them like this anymore, do they? It's no wonder that this received such a limited release; I can't imagine going to see this in the theaters, let alone with friends. It is a work that demands intense personal attention. Watch it alone.

It's a pleasure to watch such an understated treatment of potentially sensational subject matter. Full Review
Although languid to a fault, Spider offers some payoff for those with enough patience to stick it out.
Definitely a trip into unexplored territory.
Spider isn't nearly as disturbing as it is intriguing, despite its subject matter.
Cronenberg has made a sad character study that also works as an intellectual thriller. He leaves the viewer feeling a lot like Dennis Cleg: haunted. Full Review
A dark, brilliant journey into memory and schizophrenia whose peeled-back layers reveal an unexpected heroism. Full Review
Cronenberg manages a scrupulously constructed version of McGrath's novel about a schizophrenic.
A bleakly brilliant exploration of mental illness. Full Review
Spider is, in fact, a marvel, but it's also prickly, slow, withdrawn, and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Full Review
