Enter Courtney (Sursok), an ambitious choirgirl who's just formed a new singing group that's in desperate need of a male vocalist. At first Nikko and Courtney have little in common, though before long they've bonded in a bid to win the national championships right out from under the nose of Courtney's catty nemesis Tammi (Justice), who isn't above cheating to take top prize. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The thing with movies characterized by music and performing arts is that its essence depends largely on the relevance and the timing of its performances in relation to a particular issue in the story. Spectacular! may be underrated and under-appreciated but a deeper analys... read moreis of the movie may reveal quite a degree of sense and heart in it lying behind its seeming superficiality. The movie can be summarized through its four songs strategically performed in different parts of the story. For the first song, we are practically introduced to the band singer, Nikko Alexander. Conflicting perspective somehow made it quite a deal for Nikko Alexander. Nothing natural, however, can be hidden for long. Soon, his outlook was discovered and surprisingly appreciated by the choir members. In fact, he started teaching the choir members new dance steps for a change. The second song, we are drawn to the idea that Nikko Alexander finally and officially got hooked into the performing choir as he started introducing new Spectacular traditions. The third song, as in any other group endeavoring to soar, unpleasant things sometimes happen, test of character, difficult choices to be made, truth uncovered during the worst of circumstances, break ups. Good thing is that people are almost always drawn to where their heart is. Realizing that he taught the group something new to believe in and that it's heartless to just abandon and fail them after what they've been through, Nikko Alexander made the most risky decision in his lifetime. The last song is the end credits song. It's practically a good summary and I guess everything that happened in the story already speak for themselves.

This was surprisngly hard to rate.

PLOT:When aspiring rockstar Nikko (Nolan Gerard Funk) is kicked out of his band and dumped by his girlfriend, he's offered a spot in the local school jazz choir by the leader, Courtney (Tammin Sursock), who has also lost a member to the rival... read more choir, Ta-Da. He turns down the offer until he finds he has a shot at a recording contract if he gets a rockin' demo and a lot of money. He then agrees to join the choir if he splits half of the money, but he begins to grow a love for the choir as he helps it break free and the other members to figure out their true talents. It's the poor-teenager's version of School of Rock, and is executed decently, but not greatly.

ACTING:Most of it's mediocre to the cheesy max. The only performances worth mentioning are the two leads, Funk and Sursock. Funk was the only great actor out of the bunch. He did an excellent job compared to the rest of the cast. Most of the time Sursock over-acted, but she could show emotion well, just not regular acting.

SOUNDTRACK:Most of the songs are just teen pop trash, but some of them shine through as the gems of the soundtrack. "Break My Heart", Eye of the Tiger", and "Something to Believe In" are the ones I have in mind.

OTHER CONTENT:The choreography in the song numbers showed a clear comparison between order and freedom, as to make the audience feel and notice who is better and what might just happen. This movie was so difficult to rate because compared to the majority of trash I've seen, this is not as bad. It's actually partway decent. It definitely has its flaws, but it's not the worst thing I've seen.

OVERALL,a movie that's not that bad with a formulaic plot, mainly mediocre acting, teen pop trash soundtrack with its gems, and great choreography twists. Compared to some of the trash I've seen, this isn't that bad.

I had really high hopes for this movie, but I was let down. I am totally into the song and dance, boy meets girl, they sing happily ever after type of thing, but there wasn't too much about this movie that I thought was better than anything else I've seen before. There was only o... read morene song out of the whole soundtrack that made me wanna dance, which isnt a very good average. I have to say that it did get better toward the end, but not enough to make up for the slow beginning.

People were complaining that this was going to be a 'High School Musical' rip-off, but I am here to say that anything is better than 'HSM'. But I don't care what anyone says, I really did enjoy this movie. Had some really good, original music and a talented cast. Also, Greg Germa... read morenn!! But it was enjoyable for sure.
