A deadly boating accident derails the life of a sensitive youngster, leading to confusion, madness and murder. Years after the incident, Angela (Felissa Rose) is still withdrawn and rarely speaks, liv... read more read more...ing a sheltered life with her aunt and cousin Ricky (Jonathan Tiersten). The two young teens are sent off to Camp Arawak to spend the summer, and though Ricky attends every year and has plenty of friends, Angela is unable to fit in and finds herself the target of cruel taunts from her bunkmates. Her cousin is always ready to stick up for her, and she begins a timid romance with Ricky's best friend Paul (Christopher Collet), but it isn't enough to stop the abuse from their fellow campers. Soon a series of fatal accidents is plaguing Camp Arawak; a pedophilic cook is scalded alive, a practical joker drowns mysteriously and the boys' restroom becomes the scene of a horrific bee swarm attack. The campers are fleeing in droves, and the few who remain begin suspecting foul play. But who is the killer? The camp's owner (Mike Kellin) believes that the killings are only meant to ruin his business, and he's convinced that the hot-tempered Ricky is to blame. When the evening of the camp social arrives, it proves to be the bloodiest night of all, and a terrible secret is revealed in a bizarre confrontation on the beach. This offbeat slasher mystery (also known as Nightmare Vacation) has earned a sizable cult following for its twisted sensibilities and inspired a pair of direct-to-video sequels. ~ Fred Beldin, Rovi

My first and hopefully only disappointment of the month, 'Sleepaway Camp' is a tawdry, sleazy slasher film without any distinguishing qualities until a mesmerizing shock-to-the-system ending that redefines everything that came before. The performances are so abysmal and amateuris... read moreh that, for the majority of the film, Felissa Rose appears almost comatose and her aunt is so mannered, obnoxiously loud and theatrical that she acts as though she mistook the part for a Stanley Kubrick satire. The slice-and-dice murders are interminable and prosaic set pieces that range from boiling pots of water to shower stabbings (although a curling iron scene is hinted to be a gruesome phallic rape implement). The saving grace of this dross is the unforgettably hair-raising final shot and that feral, animalistic growl from the killer. If nothing else, the agape mouth of the killer will be imprinted in your mind while the rest of this hoary flop will wash away.

Just when you thought you saw everything that the 80's slasher film had to offer, Sleepaway Camp shows you that you know nothing.

An unique slasher horror movie, the ending is such a surprise, I wont ruin it, don't worry. I love this movie, it's cool.

I'd certainly call it a cult classic, but not a fantastic one. It does have some hilarious moments and a tiny bit of gore, but overall just on the mediocre side.

Sleepaway Camp is a very weird horror film to watch. It's not the type of film that will be enjoyed by the majority of horror fans, however it's one of the few films that has a certain charm to it. The film is very cheesy, it's acting, dialogue and story are tongue in cheek. This... read more is the type of film that shouldn't be considered seriously. Sleepaway Camp blends comedic elements as well and can almost be seen as a horror comedy. Still though not without it's faults, Sleepaway Camp is still a very good film despite it's tongue in cheek moments. The film is an awesome treat to watch, and if you like cheesy B grade movies, then Sleepaway Camp is the film for you.

I know this is considered to be a cult classic slasher film, but I'm at a loss here. That's 84 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

While it has its moments of being just plain weird, Sleepaway Camp is a highly predictable and lackluster slasher. It has nothing original being brought to the table, even the ending is just a joke. I guess if you're afraid of transsexuals you might find it creepy, I just thought... read more it was another attempt at saying transgenders are evil or against human nature. It's just cruel. I think this movie mainly tends to entertain on the fact that the kids all look incredibly young and I just don't know what was going on when they casted a teen slasher.

This is 80's American Cheese at it's greatest! The cast does a great job and the script is actually really good. If your a fan of cheesy slasher flicks this is one you should certainly check out...and absolutely DO NOT MISS THE ENDING!!!! One of the creepiest endings I've ever se... read moreen in a movie which is sure to give anyone the chills. A truly wicked low budget horror flick.

So ridiculous it becomes funny! This really could be a great contender for the worse acted film ever. The ending made absolutely no sense at all, how does that explain why the person is killing everyone?

Despite all these things, you still feel the need to watch it through, ... read moreif nothing else, more for the laughability factor.

Not a particularly effective movie... [but] it is an exceptionally memorable one - one that lingers in the brain, disturbing and discomfiting. Full Review

[ Sleepaway Camp] is...a gritty, sleazy Grade-Z rip-off of what Sean Cunningham and the gang more or less perfected over at Crystal Lake. Full Review
