Shrek and Fiona's (Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz, respectively) fairy-tale wedding has gone off without a hitch, yet just as the beaming newlyweds prepare to enjoy their blissful "happily ever after," t... read more read more...he sudden death of King Harold (John Cleese) finds everyone's favorite ornery ogre being reluctantly fitted for the royal crown. Troubled to learn that not only will he be compelled to rule Far Far Away, but that he and Fiona are also expecting a little ogre, Shrek determines to track down his new bride's rebellious cousin, Artie (Justin Timberlake) -- the one true heir to the throne -- in order to focus on fatherhood without the added distraction of having to preside over the kingdom. As Shrek sets out with faithful companions Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) to locate the medieval high-school slacker and bring him back to become the reigning sovereign of Far Far Away, handsome snake Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) slithers back to the castle in the company of the dreaded Captain Hook (Ian McShane) to stage a diabolically timed coup and assume control of the throne. Now, as Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots do their best to wrangle up the feisty Artie, Fiona must enlist the aid of fighting princesses Snow White (Amy Poehler), Sleeping Beauty (Cheri Oteri), Rapunzel (Maya Rudolph), and Cinderella (Amy Sedaris) to barricade the castle and fend off Prince Charming's invading army of fairy-tale villains until her beloved husband can return with the cavalry to save the day. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

not as good as the first 2

It was okay. A bit gross. Not as funny as the other ones.

What the Shrek has happened with such a funny series!? The first SHREK was an original, imaginative take on almost every fairy tale; SHREK 2 was a great, entertaining sequel, and now, folks, we have SHREK THE THIRD, even though somewhat creatively titled, a terrible, terrible fi... read morelm that loses Mike Myers all his humor and loses Eddie Murphy all his wit. There's nothing good here.

Made to make money off the great Shrek and Shrek 2. Shrek the Third is slapstick drivel that has a ridiculously boring plot.
  • August 15, 2011
Dumb and a shame to the Shrek series. Two funny parts, and then it is all just cliche and boring and a horrible addition to the Shrek movies. Story sucked and wasnt worth my time. I really hated this in a way, they took it a big notch down.

It doesn't even have to be justified that Shrek The Third is amazing. With a great cast and the added addition of the gorgeous Justin Timberlake as Artie makes this movie another great treasured addition to the Shrek series. I own all of these movies except for Shrek Forever Afte... read morer. They are great quality movies with a great message in each of them, and I will treasure them forever as I do with the Toy Story series.

Shrek The Third, might be funny and entertaining with the pop culture satire and clever story, but the screenplay is too weak, what made is film, one of the worse of the Shrek franchise. Rotten.
  • June 24, 2011
Funny but not as good as the first film.
  • June 17, 2011
Just ok. Definitely the worst of the series and a lot of jokes fall flat but there are some really funny moments to keep it mildly entertaining.

Not going to lie, I laughed. A lot.

Sure, it lacks the heart and charm of the first two but it'd be a stretch to say the story felt out of place, it works! If you love the previous movies enough you'd probably give this a watch just to knock out a few more chuckles.

Apart from some modestly amusing princess shtick and a pleasantly slapsticky opening, there's no real reason for anyone over the age of 11 to see this one. Full Review

This is a very skillfully made corporate product, but I wonder who, exactly, will be fully satisfied. Full Review

Computer-generated animated movies with wall-to-wall jokes can be excruciating, but these jokes are the funniest money can buy. Full Review

This is the most visually impressive Shrek yet. It's also the least inspired.

The plot material isn't as strong as in the first two movies -- if anything, it feels a bit desperate -- but the anti-Disney joke blunderbuss remains in good working order. Full Review

Feels sluggish and tired; its relentless, not-so-great gags hit with the soft thud of stone-hard bread crumbs. Full Review

The film's humor is all in the business and nowhere in the lame story's two subplots, neither of which is strong enough to sustain a real movie. Full Review

A parallel world of wonders, zestfully conceived and radiantly rendered, in which the great-hearted ogre tries his likeable best to avoid the parallel threats of kingship and parenthood. Full Review

The world of the fanciful fable looks particularly vibrant this time with its signature blend of realism and fantasy. It is a pleasure to watch these fairy tale folk be themselves -- yet again. Full Review
