    I like Mark Wahlberg.
    I'm a huge gun fanatic.
    I love action movies.
    But this movie disappointed man...
The plot, typical. The ending, one of the worst conclusions you can ever end a movie on. The action, not exciting at all. Is there tension? Not really. This movie fails on a lot... read more of parts. Only thing I've gotta say about this movie is how some scenes (especially the snow sniper scene) is gorgeous. I wanted to like this movie, but it was just another mindless Hollywood action flick.

Shooter is a pretty good and engaging action film starring Mark Wahlberg. I thought that the film was very entertaining, pulse pounding and action packed. Mark Wahlberg plays a Marine sniper who is double crossed and he must do everything he can to clear his name. I'm not normall... read morey prone to Antoine Fuqua films, and I find him to be quite mediocre as a filmmaker, but Shooter is a pretty good effort. I personally felt that this was a better film than Fuqua's Training Day. The cast do a fine job at delivering good performances, and the thrills keep coming. Fuqua's directing is pretty good, and he delivers a very entertaining action thriller. There are some good actors on-screen, and they each bring something good to the film. Wahlberg is in top form, and Shooter is really a cool action film. The film is not the best, but for what it is, the film is a good entertaining action film that delivers enough action to please the viewer. Antoine Fuqua has made his best film with Shooter. This is definitely one of the better action films to come in recent times. If you like intrigue and conspiracy elements mixed with your action, then look no further than Shooter. This is a very enjoyable film with plenty of tense, thrilling moments. This definitely one of the best films that Fuqua has made. Wahlberg definitely deliver on-screen, and this is a film not to miss if you're looking for a cool action film.

An ex Special Services sniper is recruited to investigate a possible assassination attempt on the President but when he is framed for the death of a foreign dignitary he must find the real conspirators to clear his name. It's Marky Mark's turn to strut his Bourne thang and Shoote... read morer has all the ingredients you'd expect from a Hollywood conspiracy thriller. Wahlberg and Pena are fine as the outlaw lawmen cutting a swathe of popping craniums through the usual suspects, although Rhona Mitra and Kate Mara are clearly just there as the obligatory window dressing and I wish Elias Koteas would stop taking these parts as grinning caricatures because he's better than this. It at least attempts to touch on the subject of the US's foreign policy of planting a stars and stripes on every country on the globe in an attempt to "liberate" their oil fields, but their solution is, as ever, an American with a big gun. There's absolutely nothing here you won't have seen before but everyone involved is very comfortable with the ins and outs of this kind of thing and it's a very efficient and well executed example.

Slightly more intelligent than your typical action thriller. Shooter ticks all the right boxes without you having to turn your brain off but I'm still not sure about the ending. I liked it and I didn't, a more realistic ending would have been depressing but at least it would have... read more been realistic and would have perhaps left more of an impression but in the end, this was a pretty good film, entertaining throughout. Antoine Fuqua is a talented director, he's been a bit hit and miss for me until now, so I'm looking forward to seeing his more recent and upcoming films.

Shooter was a good movie and a cool movie. It has exactly what people came for, shooting and action, and many critics fail to realize thats why we watched it. Mark Wahlberg didn't do much, he just look and talked cool, but no real acting. The action was great, you can really t... read moreell thats what they were going for in the movie. A simple plot, it wasnt half bad, but I would be lying if I said I remember the story at all, I forgot it in a week. Overall Shooter was pretty good movie.

When the truth and lies don't follow the rights and wrongs, justice must be dealt with up front or from long distances. An great movie that may lack in originality but incorporates the right amount of action with political drama.

Mark Wahlberg heads up a pretty solid cast for an action flick that attempts to make snipers as cool and intelligent as those CIA Jason Bourne types. For the most part, the movie succeeds.
Director Antoine Fuqua stages many an action scene involving helicopters, massive army squ... read moreads, and a ton of gunfights, all of which see Wahlberg's character calculating his way out, then executing it with precision and some bad ass sniper kills. He's doing this to free his name, as he was framed for the murder of an archbishop and attempted murder of the President by a small organization of very crooked but connected politicians.
Wahlberg doesn't have the charisma that Matt Damon or Daniel Graig bring to their action heroes. But interestingly enough, he has the aura of a cool, everyday sort of guy. This makes his frequent switches from the average joe to cold blooded killer all the more intriguing, which makes up for the convoluted narrative.
One of the film's themes centres around vigilante justice, particularly in the face of people who can't be tried in the court of law, quite simply because they run the courts. The shooter's morals never come into question, and they really shouldn't, since he is constantly betrayed by his country. In that sense, the film celebrates vigilantism in the face of no other reasonable form of justice. I don't have too many problems with that.

This was playing on TV and I was bored, so I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It kept me in it the entire way with plot twists and a grip of action.
  • August 21, 2010
This film is basically a Glenn Beck wet dream. The government is big and evil, the hero is a lone citizen with a well-stacked armory, and eventually the "patriot" "must" take matters into his own hands. The film does present the idea that corrupt power knows no political party ... read moreand a few dead bodies aren't going to change anything, but the film instantly belies this sentiment with its reductive conclusion. In sum, this is more violence-porn, and I'm not aroused.

This is the first big-studio action picture (the director is Antoine Fuqua) with some of the disgusted, bloody nihilism of the post-Vietnam era. Full Review

It's one of those conspiracy thrillers that keeps on asking you to take a leap of faith, until you get tired of leaping and you just start laughing in all the wrong places.

The crushing two-hour-plus running time and Tom Clancy-for-dummies plot sabotage the film, which becomes particularly ridiculous in the last 30 minutes. Full Review

Suspended over a deep gully of disbelief, where logic takes more bullets than the bad guys, Shooter still makes the grade as hard-ass action escapism.
