Enjoyed it thoroughly!! took me back to my childhood fascination with the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies as I tried to deduce everything as Holmes did lol. A fun solid modern adaptation of a great character.

Sherlock Holmes has always been someone who understands the power of logic, but Guy Ritchie favours in everything but. The plot he works with is very silly but still works firmly as a perfect popcorn flic... read more -

If I'm honest, this was better than anticipated. Yes, it's a bit of a hollow spectacle, but it's none the less enjoyable for that. My main concern was that Guy Ritchie's flashy style might render the art and costume departments' marvellous period evocation of Victorian London a w... read more

Guy Ritchie's first film in this interesting franchise is a force of nature. Downey plays the character with such ease, and the impressive camera work spread throughout is nothing short of awesome. I applaud Ritchie for making such an entertaining action-adventure film out of suc... read more

When watching a film of such a nature, itā(TM)s hard not for two thoughts to cross your mind: One, B and C are merely insipid excuses to use artistic film editing techniques. The zooming and panning techniques used to create SHERLOCK HOLMES are those that would only be found in a... read more

what a pleasant surprise. i expected to hate this film, and i really enjoyed it. the film was not without major problems. while i love the bourne series, this film is an example of the only unfortunate side to living in a post bourne world. this film could have been much bett... read more

December 20, 2011fb733768972Sherlock Holmes is a stylistic take on a classic character, and it really works. As Lord Blackwood rises from his grave, he is on the loose, creating many obstacles for Holmes (and his partner Watson) to beat. The story is very well told, the writing is perfect, the cinematograph... read more

Phantom Camera + Guy Ritchie + Robert Downey Jr = Entertaining blockbuster.
Mark strong and Jude Law play great support actors and the story isn't so much complex as it is fun and hilarious. Its solid but not exactly the most memorable film.

What was the thinking behind all this? Full Review
It's all knotted together, then unraveled with brio, by Holmes and Watson. There are fisticuffs galore, fiery combustion aplenty, and, yes, my dear reader, clever deduction. Full Review
The very idea of handing him over to professional lad Guy Ritchie, to be played as a punch-throwing quipster by Robert Downey Jr., is so profoundly stupid one can only step back in dismay. Full Review
Downey never winks -- heā(TM)s too much of a pro for that -- but like the man heā(TM)s playing, heā(TM)s much, much smarter than the movie heā(TM)s in. Full Review
By now we've seen so many good, bad, and indifferent Sherlocks that it's almost a relief to get something different, however wrongheaded. And there's no such thing as too much Downey. Full Review
Playing literature's greatest detective as a sort of self-loathing action hero, Downey has an absolute blast. And thanks to his performance in Sherlock Holmes, so do we. Full Review
Dazzling visuals and hipster dialogue, but a story that stays true to the original source material. Full Review
This is a swashbuckling, pratfalling romp designed to make cerebral Holmes purists drop their monocles into their teacups. Full Review
Though purists may balk at Arthur Conan Doyle's literary world being manhandled into a blockbuster by never-subtle director Guy Ritchie, Downey has a winning take on Holmes: He's always on. Full Review
