Ian (Zuckerman) has just turned 18, and he feels like the last American virgin. He works at the mall donut shop, he's taunted by his womanizing older brother, Rex (Marsden), and he's even losing ladies to his 14-year-old brother. Having struck out time and again with his dream girl and longtime best friend, Felicia (Crew), Ian finally resorts to logging on and looking for a date online. In a stunning turn of events, Ian manages to chat up a beautiful blonde named Ms. Tasty, who's eager to be his first. She's fun, she's sexy, and she's everything that Ian has ever wanted in a girlfriend. The only thing preventing them from consummating their relationship now is the distance between them; Ian lives in Chicago and Ms. Tasty lives 500 miles away in Knoxville. But it's easy to pretend that you're someone you're not online, and Ian hasn't exactly been honest about his appearance in the first place. Still, he's sure he could charm Ms. Tasty all the same once he meets her in person, so he takes the advice of his best friend Lance (Clark Duke) and prepares to take Ms. Tasty up on her offer to "go all the way" for him if he "drives all the way" for her. But everyone knows that a road trip is no fun alone, so in order to keep him company on the road Ian invites Lance and Felicia along for the ride. Later, after stopping off to party at an Amish rave and facing a series of hilarious setbacks, Ian finally meets the girl of his dreams. Unexpectedly, things don't go quite as planned.. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I didn't hate this movie. I mean, Seth Green (mostly) pulls off a delightfully passive-aggressive Amish; James Marsden, a decidedly homophobic douche bag; and Clark Duke, possibly the funniest character in the film, if one of the least believable (but I wouldn't necessarily blame... read more that on him so much as the casting). The others are mostly passable except, say, Katrina Bowden's god-awful Southern accent (though Southern accents tend to be botched anyhow).

Don't expect a memorable or, really, interesting plot, but expect a few laughs, maybe even some laugh-out-loud moments, not necessarily memorable laughs. It could've been better but if it'd tried any harder, it probably would've fallen apart. Then again, that's the nature of formulaic films, comedic or otherwise.

i hate how all the critics were licking this movie balls because it was like "the new improved sex comedy". ok look at the cover man. its a guy in a donut suit with a gun. i swear ive never seen that before, but does that mean its hilarious?? AND THE MOVIES CALLED SEX DRIVE PEOPL... read moreE!!! how sophistocated can it be??
Funniest scene? James Marsden destroying a garage door with his fist and head. I think smart people will realize this movie, in fact, does suck when they see a drunk amish girl run out of a barn screaming "Rum springer" and then falling (not drunk falling, just plunging downward into the ground) into cow shit, or shit from whatever animal amish people own. But im even smarter than most smart people so i knew it was gonna suck when i heard it was called "Sex Drive".

This movie was funny. I didnt know if this was going to be just another bad teen sex comedy or if it was actually going to be funny. I really liked the movie. James Marsden as Rex was hilarious and did a good job at playing the asshole older brother. The title explains whats the ... read moremovie is about so if you like road trip movies then this is for you.

Okay, so I watched the unrated version even though there was a disclaimer to watch the theatrical release first. I guess I should have listened to the disclaimer... Might have been better that way. It was alright but not funny and/or cute enough for me to watch again.

Your basic run of the mill teen sex comedy. It's not very good and there are very few laughs. It's very predictable as well.
Seth Green brings the only laughs in the whole movie.

A horny teenager brings his friends along on a road trip from Chicago to Knoxville to lose his virginity with a girl he met online.

OK, yes I kno... read morew its another teenage movie, but what sets this one apart from most of those other teenage flicks is this one is actually funny. The best raunchy/road trip movie I have seen in quite some time. A lot of laugh out loud moments. It will make you cringe, laugh, and might even offend you. Which is all better in these kinds of films. Couldn't believe some of the stuff they did in this film. I had the pleasure of seeing the theatrical version and the un-rated version. Both are hilarious, but the unrated version is a bit funnier although I could have done without all the unnecessary naked chicks and dudes who just happen to walk across the scene. Anyways, it was fun and silly and I totally enjoyed watching this film. Loads of laughs.

Easily, One of the funniest movies of 08'!!

I loved every minute of this movie!! If you are looking for a non-stop constantly-falling-out-of-your-seat film, then Sex Drive is perfect for you. It is an instant teen comedy classic, in my books. James Mardsen and Seth Green steals ... read morethe show but up and coming actors: Josh Zuckerman and Clark Duke did extremely well for themselves and prove themselves to be the next big thing in the future. It is just about as funny than Superbad and American Pie (1,2,3) and the plot of the movie was just so simple and well-made. Hopefully, Sex Drive will be a teen classic in the next few years because it's extremely funny, raunchy & has a little bit of it's sweet side, too. Sex Drive is awesome and super hilarious!!!

I walked into this movie thinking it was just going to be another bad comedy, but it wasn't, and I'm calling it the Superbad of 2008!

Inane supposed comedy, crass and tasteless. What is James Marsden doing in this junk?
  • November 18, 2009
Actually pretty funny, but I think it's because they had people like Clark Duke, James Marsden and Seth Green. The lead was just such a moron that it was hard to feel sorry for him and I almost begin to get joy from him getting played like a fiddle. It had some good original mome... read morents and it's definitely worth a watch.

Why in the world is this essentially sweet tale of two super shy teenagers who fall in love dressed up in utterly profane fancy dress? Full Review

Some jokes work, some don't and, frankly, I can't remember either, but it leaves a sweet aftertaste. Slight, but sweet. Full Review

The comedy is uniformly crude and lewd, some of it works and some of it's lame. Full Review

There should be some kind of law that if you're going to make an incredibly derivative, violent and vulgar teen comedy then it must also be funny. Full Review

While it elicits a few laughs, Sex Drive has little to ignite either the comic road-trip genre or the teen-sex romp. Full Review

The title Sex Drive is a pun about a road trip in search of nooky, but it's also an apt image of what it's like to be a teen guy. You're the car. The stick shift is driving you. Full Review

Just slightly funnier than you'd expect, this dashed-off teen comedy cribs from a thousand other movies, without coming up with anything original of its own. Full Review

Formulaic doesn't necessarily mean lifeless, and Sean Anders, who directs (and co-wrote the script), hits a number of bits just right. Full Review
