She longs to become a professional dancer, and decides to take a road trip to California with her best friend Corey (Briana Evigan). When their car breaks down just outside the dusty small town of Conejo Springs, carefree Corey bides her time waiting for a new water pump to arrive by striking up a friendship with local bad boy Randy Holt (Ed Westwick). The following morning, a meteor crashes to the ground nearby, destroying a local farmer's windmill and leaving a gaping crater in the ground. In the aftermath of that unsettling incident, Sam's disturbing prophetic dreams seem to start spilling over into the real world. Could the people around her prove the key to unlocking this unearthly mystery? Unfortunately for Sam, religious fanatics Trudy Potter (Elizabeth Berkley) and Pastor John Mellit (Matthew Davis) seem more interested in spouting religious clichés that pondering the end of the world, and Randy and the locals are too busy partying to notice that events are coming to a head. When the locals begin to gossip, Sam and Corey's friendship starts to suffer, and the pair have a bitter falling out. Unaware of the fact that they have become inexorably bound by fate to a missing child, an unstable Gulf War veteran, and a mysterious rift in the time-space continuum, the former friends discover that the world will soon perish unless a substantial sacrifice is made. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Really not as bad as I was expecting. Clearly the director and writer worship the original, there's so many similar plots and meticulous homages to it. Daveigh Chase isn't all that great, neither is the character of Sam. However, this movie's just so interesting for some reason. ... read moreMaybe it was the cool 90s soundtrack that had me transfixed, but I honestly wasn't expecting anything more than a sci-fi channel original movie when I put it in. It's a nice surprise.

I loved the first movie but I had to watch it a few times to really appreciate it. I'm not giving this one another chance. I thought that changing the past would make everything in the future right but it didnt seem that the boys were going to be discovered in the "new" future. S. Darko has the look and feel of Donnie Darko. I liked how the story was both a logical followup, plus a fresh reversal of Donnie Darko's personal time travel predicament. Woefully, the execution could've been much better. None of the characters and ideas were fleshed out well e... read morenough. I didn't care enough about the characters to grieve their sacrifice; I wasn't moved to tears like I was at the end of Donnie Darko. Some characters were downright annoying and some unbelievable. What was with the geeky meteorite-boy; was he influenced by the space rock or was he always a creep? (BTW - nice Jeff Goldblum impression!) Recklessly, there were too many characters and storylines tossed around - and not enough connective plotting to tie everything together like the masterpiece original. I liked some of the subtle references to the first Darko, but others were curiously forced; like the metallic rabbit mask and the Time Travel book. Worst thing of all was the setting was no longer in the magical 80's, so they played 1995 tunes; which took me out of the serious moments.

This movie is a waste of time. Horrible acting and a script that is pieced together from scenes of the original movie. There is a scene in a movie theater, a scene at a party edited together to look like the high school hallway scene from the first, a big bunny, and even a pers... read moreon of high standing in the community that has a thing for kids.
There was so much unoriginal thinking in this movie it was ridiculous. It's obvious the makers of the film had no clue as to what happened in the original film and decided it best to play it safe and try and copy the film as best they could. Of course they say in the commentary that they understood it perfectly and if you don't get their movie then you weren't paying enough attention...
Two ridiculous parts of the movie come from the ending. A child is left to die chained up in a cave while all the other people of the flick are smiling and thinking about how good it is to be alive. The other part that just had me rolling my eyes is the fact that the world comes to end by infectious space rocks that rain hell fire down upon the earth. I am not kidding.

It's not as bad as you may think. It's just utterly pointless. Essentially what the filmmakers have done is tell almost an identical story to Donnie Darko, just with Donnie's sister as the main character. If you understand Richard Kelly's time travel talk, then the big twist i... read moren this movie is that Samantha is not the Living Receiver, like Donnie was. She plays the role of the Manipulated Dead, or the role of Frank the bunny from the first film.
It's a well made film. And Ed Westwick pretty much plays his Gossip Girl character here, which is always entertaining. But the film takes no risks. The filmmakers seem too concerned with making their film feel like Donnie Darko, that they don't explore the mythology in any way. The film is too safe, and as a result, is as forgettable as a bad meal.

It's no Donnie Darko...but it's really not a bad addition to the story at all in my opinion. You either love it or hate it, exactly how it was with the first. It's not really a sequel, it's just a so what happens next kind of story. It definitely had the feel and essence of the f... read moreirst one, granted the acting wasn't always top notch...but these characters were built quite well...not enough Iraq Jack, but we'll get to that later.

Well...um...I thought the score was great and they used a Cocteau Twins song so that was a plus but otherwise....
Let me put it this way, I'm the first to admit that I didn't understand everything about Donnie Darko but the makers of this didnt know ANYthing about it.
It's like... read more they cobbled together the most memorable moments and ideas from the first and then threw in half-assed storylines about meteors with weird side effects, a bitchy friend and disappearing children (which is never even resolved!)
Now just in case this all sounds like disappointment it's not because I went into this with an open mind but lower than low expectations and it still didnt come close to matching.

7 years ago we were left with one of the biggest cliffhangers of all time. For years fans demanded a sequel and here it is. Well, OK, nobody wanted this and yet here it is. One of the most pointless and unwanted films to ever be made. In a way I feel kind of sorry for it. The fil... read morem plays it too safe, simply imitating it's older brother. The idea of showing the film from the point of view of the manipulated dead as opposed to the living receiver is a good one. But apparenlt no matter what you are it's all a load of bollocks. The film is painfully dull and far too serious. Donnie Darko had an expert and hilarious sense of humour. There's no Sparkle Motion or "Suck a fuck"'s here. Donnie remained intriguing, due to expertly crafted websites and supplementary material, as well as a complex, but focused screenplay. S.Darko just misses the point, but doesn't even have the decency to be so bad, that's it's disgusting.

This 'Donnie Darko Tale' is all style, no substance - a superficial imitation that retraces the original's twists and turns but offers none of its own. Full Review

I love Donnie Darko. It is ominous, funny, replete with ... well-observed moments. S. Darko is a callous attempt to cash in on its well-earned appreciation. Full Review
