This film is a '90s version of the classic Robin Hood story, with Kevin Costner starring as the good-guy thief. Costner is joined in his efforts against the murdering Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickm... read more read more...an) by Morgan Freeman who plays a philosophizing Moor, and by Nick Brimble, who plays Little John (anything but little). After Robin barely survives a watery skirmish with Little John, the two become allies and Robin joins forces with Little John's band of robber thieves to overcome the evils of the dastardly Nottingham sheriff. ~ Rovi

The bad guy actually has the line "Cancel Christmas!!!" Anyway, still the best Robin Hood in over 50 years. ;)

A wonderful new version of Robin Hood. I especially loved Alan Rickman as the sheriff of Nottingham. This movie is exciting, action packed, and very entertaining.

A beautiful looking movie with lots of great action and explosions. It also has a star studded cast and extremely fun characters to accompany them. While Kevin Costner essentially plays himself in Robinhoodland, it's indeed better than him playing a copy of Erroll Flynn and havin... read moreg some outrageous British accent. Alan Rickman plays the Sheriff in a way that no one else ever has or will, it is perfect. I also love the completely daring performance from Michael Wincott a.k.a The Cousin. This movie's strong suit is the ridiculously cool landscape and storytelling. They made Robin Hood extremely realistic and an action extravaganza. It's always a fun movie to watch.

The two best things in this movie: Alan Rickman's acting and Christian Slater. Yum. Kevin Costner was atrocious. I mean, was I supposed to believe for a second he was British? I didn't. AWFUL. Like *gag*. BUT remember those two good things? Redeeming. And a pretty bad ass battle ... read morescene... finally. Last part of the movie! Better late than never, I suppose.
Still, I prefer the Mel Brooks parody over the original.

Nevermind the fact that Costner's acting is a little stiff and his accent is all but absent. This is a rousing and exciting adventure film. For a PG-13, it's also quite dark and violent. That may not be a big deal now, but it was rather shocking back in the day. I don't think/can... read more't remember if it's the most violent or dark PG-13 film I've seen, but it's content still surprised me.

Despite his shortcomings, Costner isn't that bad. He's not a great Robin, but I'm sure a worse one can be found. Maybe I'm just too nice. Rickman though, is damn excellent. He started his career as a villain, and he did so well at it that it doesn't surprise me that he gets typecast. I mean, he's a great actor in general, but make him a villain, and he just shines like no other. The rest of the cast is mostly good, but don't expect any Ocar winning performances.

The camera work and action scenes are the best parts of the movie, so that's basically the main reason to see this. It's also good if you're in the mood for a night of late 80s early 90s nostalgia.

I love Robin Hood, and I'm sorry, but the Disney fox had better acting than Kevin Costner.

Very entertaining, despite its many flaws. Kevin Costner wouldn't exactly be my first pick for the role of Robin Hood, but he does a surprisingly good job here. He's also backed up by a very colorful supporting cast. Alan Rickman may be a bit cartoonish as the Sheriff of Nottingh... read moream, but I think that's more due to faulty directing, as opposed to bad acting from him. I was also a bit annoyed by the extreme close-ups and weird camera movements. Thankfully though, they don't occur too often. And in the end, this remains a highly enjoyable experience. Certainly one of the best versions of the story that I've ever seen. Not to mention the wonderful music score, by the legendary John Williams.

Kevin Cosnter as Robin Hood. It felt so good at that time.
  • September 25, 2009
Massively overrated at the time, I always wanted Alan Rickman to kill Kevin Costner in the end.

the theme song is almost as annoyong as the one from Titanic. Bryan Adams and Celine Dion are both canadian....hmmm.... i wonder...

The bones of the story are comfortingly familiar, the action is rollicking, and the metaphorical moustache-twirling of Alan Rickman's Sheriff of Nottingham is priceless. [Blu-ray] Full Review

Poorly directed by reynolds, the film stars a passable Kevin Costner in the Erroll Flynn role, but it's the supporting cast that shines, especially Alan Rickman. Full Review
