Nick (Denzel Washington) is a successful happily married police officer with a distinguished record. He is drugged, kidnapped and framed by Blake (John Lithgow) who has never forgiven him for arresting him years before. Nick must redeem himself both to the police force, his family and the public who had come to love and respect him. Denzel Washington is excellent in his role of the good man in an impossible situation. John Lithgow, while always interesting, is completely over-the-top as the psychotic criminal, and the film looses plausibility during an extended and highly improbable and unbelievable final chase sequence around the Watts Towers. Despite these flaws, Ricochet is an exiting suspense film with a fine performance by Washington and worth watching despite its disappointing conclusion. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

One of Washington's earlier performance, back when he obviously still had to resort to showing off his body and looks for the role. Not quite the standard of film we expect from the now popular Actor, but you can certainly see the beginnings of the Actor he has become today.

... read morePersonally I feel John Lithgow was a poor choice as co-star and this film could have been a lot better with a better quality of Actor.

I did enjoy the mind games and plot reminded me much of that of Cape Fear. Watchable, but felt very dated.

    Strange revenge movie.

A giant load of cliche crap.

Although Lithgow strapping on phone books with duct tape to engage in some sort of prison version of a duel was pretty inspired.

Oh Russel Mulcahy what happened to you post Highlander & Razorback?

Fantastic, over the top revenge thriller, this is bloody, violent and creative in its slayings, and the busy plot of betrayal and blackmail is relentless in its pace.

Denzel Washington is a prosperous, respected, happily married District Attorney. John Lithgow is a prisoner whom Washington sent up the river years ago. His frame-up of Washington is really devilishly skillful. Lithgow plays the criminal out to get revenge and boy, is he scary! I wouldn't want him after me.

    *Warning Spoiler*
He conks the unsuspecting DA on the head, takes him to an empty swimming pool at an empty club, drugs him into near insensibility, and videotapes him having sex with a hooker who, as it later turns out, is also giving him the clap. Washington finally wakes up to find himself in rags amongst a community of homeless people. WELL! Nobody believes his story of course. Lithgow even kills his friend and fellow officer, nicely played by Kevin Pollak and guess who is the fall guy?

Once I started using Flixster I tried to remember the name of this movie. "What was the name again? It had the most senseless frame-up job in history. It had that horrible climax. It had some of the worst lines of dialogue these ears have heard." Finally, I remember the name... read more, and it is Ricochet.

Another guilty pleasure. I totally loose it every time I see John Lithgow strapping phone books on himself to engage in a gladitorial brawl in prison.

A taut, twisty urban suspenser powered by the spring-loaded performance of Denzel Washington in his first major action role, Ricochet has a nasty streak and a tendency toward implausible excess. Full Review

The screenplay, by Steven E. de Souza, contains many glib, obscene wisecracks, plus the misinformation that Anna Karenina was Tolstoy's first book. Full Review

After a potent start this fizzles with a stupid ending, but John Lithgow's Earl Talbot Blake is one of the most sinister, most vicious, most unforgettable movie villains ever.

Every now and then a movie comes along that is so preposterous, so devoid of any reality or logic, you have to wonder how it got made. Full Review

Solid thriller. Lithgow is a great villain with real power over the hero. Lots of tension.

Spectacular, violent and wildly excessive urban actioner that may not be taking itself quite as seriously as first appears. Full Review
