Well,it isn't the worst Kurosawa, that's a gravity point. It's pathetic nonetheless.Piety and respect to the fruitful generation in spite of the elders' guidance and alternatively, the cycle continues by giving props to the what occurred in a critical epoch of a land e.g. the nuclea... read more

January 20, 2012fb68600877A really stirring look at the lasting effects of the atomic bombs and war, in general. Also, this film provides great insight into generation gaps, as well as cultural gaps, and how they inform us and drive our futures. This is very interesting. A grandmother reminices of the bombings of World War II and an estrange American family member visits. It is not all about them but it rotates around the grandchildren.

Not Kurosawa's best but a very tender story capturing the escence of post-nuclear japanese society. Richard Gere makes a well thought perfomance.

A film about understanding where you come from with the atomic bombing of Japan as the genesis. Quietly emotional. Richard Gere is incidental, though his appearance did cause controversy.

I very poignant film from one of the masters; Akira Kurosawa. An interesting study on "the bomb" in Japan.
Critic Reviews
Mr. Gere gives a good, self-effacing performance in a role that's a little unreal. He speaks his own Japanese dialogue easily and is at the center of one of Mr. Kurosawa's most breathtaking moments. Full Review
Plain and simple, Rhapsody is mediocre pap. It's nothing compared with his previous work. Full Review
A delicately nuanced film about remembrance -- so delicate, perhaps, that it's not terribly memorable itself. Full Review
It is not one of his great films, but shows him thoughtfully trying to come to peace with the central event of his times. Full Review
A touching heartfelt film by the octogenarian legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. Full Review
Kurosawa's lovely meditation on the nature of American-Japanese relations could not come at a better time. Full Review
It's proof, as if anyone needed it, that at 82, Kurosawa still possesses all of his artistic filmmaking powers. Full Review
