Though an innovative biotech conglomerate subsequently offers the fearful public a means of maintaining their health by enacting a series of hassle-free organ payment plans, things begin to get messy when it's revealed that the financed body parts are subjected to legal default, and that failure to maintain proper payment will result in forceful repossession of the organs. I enjoyed the concept of Repo! The Genetic Opera, however this film doesn't rival The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The film is very elaborate and effective, and does have good music. The film was directed by Darren Lyn Bousman who previously cut his teeth on a few Saw films. Produc... read moreed by Twisted Pictures, Repo! The Genetic Opera is a good enough, modernized horror musical with plenty of gore for today's new breed of horror fans. I enjoyed this film, however I felt that it wasn't especially great, I thought that it would be very good, considering some of the review in horror circles, but I felt slightly disappointed in the film. Not saying that it's bad, quite on the contrary, I'm just saying that this film was slightly overhyped. Repo! will surely please gore fans, as the film doesn't lack in blood and gore. The songs are good, and Paris Hilton's screen time isn't too bad either (surprisingly), this film is a good enough film to watch, or despite the fact that it's not as good as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Repo! The Genetic Opera is still a memorable viewing experience. If you've enjoyed the Saw films, then you'll most likely going to enjoy this film. A good blend of music, horror and plenty of gore make this a must see for horror fans. Repo! The Genetic Opera is a fairly eccentric musical, but considering the horror aspects of the film, what do you expect? An interesting addition to the horror musical genre, Repo! The Genetic Opera is a film that will stick you for some time.

Shilo Wallace: Why oh why are my genetics such a bitch?

    "Not Your Parent's Opera"

Repo! The Genetic Opera is not nearly as bad as the plot description may indicate. It actually has a pretty cool and atmospheric feeling to it, but I would be lying if I said I didn't grow ti... read morered of it fairly quick. Some scenes are awesome, stylish and just just downright brilliant, but more than not the scenes are stupid and badly done.

It's a strange, strange film that isn't like anything you've seen before. It has a Nightmare Before Christmas feeling to it at times, but obviously much more violent and the songs are not nearly as good. As a short film, maybe 45 minutes, this would have been awesome, but there's just not enough there to make an hour and a half musical. The filmmakers tried to make something cool and at times it is, but in the end it will just have you saying "What the fuck did I just watch?"

Repo! is inventive and original, which is always nice, but it may have tried a bit too hard to distance itself from other movies. It's a nice try, but I didn't particularly care for it.

TERRIBLE MOVIE. Allow me to save the average man allot of time. I attempted to watch this movie, but it's like some sort of sick goth sadism movie. I have nothing against splatter-house films, but this film was cheesy as cheese itself. This is a disaster and I hate you. I hate yo... read moreu 73% of the audience who enjoyed listening to the terrible tale of the organ man. Ugh, three thumbs down. It has nothing to do with the gore in this movie, not at all. I'm actually quite resistant to gore infested gross-out movies, but this movie avoids the gore at all costs. Mainly because the movie is in extreme dept. No realistic effects... no good effects... someone I know who watched the movie along with me said he thought this movie was actually pretty funny due to the cheese effects. I know I don't mean to troll (like someone said a few seconds ago to me, catching me in the act of writing a bad review), but I dislike this trash (thumbs down on movie).

I remember really liking this movie when I first saw it, but when I saw it again today I realized most of it's flaws. The plot did go off at times and the villain did seem 1st dimension, along with 90% of the rest of the characters. The only one who I actually thought has some ty... read morepe of character was the repo man himself, but again, it was off sometimes. So yeah, only see it once in your lifetime

I expected this film to be just completely downright awful and having no redeeming qualities. And yes, while it really isn't that great of a movie, it is somehow still sort of watchable and entertaining despite it's repulsiveness. If youy don't like gore, skip this. If you don't ... read morelike musicals, skip this, if you don't like rock operas, well, it's kinda like the last one: skip it. If you want something that is odd, unique, and creative, then maybe give this one a watch.

The music, concept, execution, and performances are rough around the edges, but there was some thought put into things. Take it in a tongue and cheek kind of way, and you might find something groovy about it. I was drunk when I watched it, so that kind of added to the experience, but I'm sure it's still okay if you're sober...maybe. It probably depends on your general mindset anyway.

The cast is good, and, given what they have to work with, the end results could actually probably have been worse even though they aren't terrific to start with. I like that this was a mixture of live action, comic book, and just plain nuttiness. It's silly, but hey, offbeat isn't all that bad...not all the time. I do however wish that they would have cast Dani Filth as the Graverobber instead of Terrence Zdunich. Also, this wasn't quite as gory as I thought it was gonna be. Don't get me wrong: this movie is gross and disturbing, but it kinda holds back at times.

I did liek the costuems and set designs, but if you don't like the gotrh scene, you'll hate this one.

So yeah, this movie ain't great, but it's got it's moments.

I actually enjoyed this a lot more then I thought I would, considering I'm not a fan of musicals.

It's a great story, full of tragedy, deception and murder. Perfectly suited for an opera-like presentation, but full of modern twists. SO much so that apparently Universal allow... read moreed a not so subtle (musicless) rip-off of the story with their film Repo Men.

I have to say that visually this film was amazing and the cast was really smart as well. It is really pleasing to the eye (to spite the gore), but not so much for to the ear.

I'm no expert, but the songs themselves (along with much of the singing) just felt really amateure and forced...almost like an afterthought.

It's not bad.. but it's not good either. Some of the songs were kinda cool and the whole thing looks creepy and futuristic. It's worth a watch if you're in to that steampunk, goth thing.

Rock opera about a bizarre future where a mysterious disease has made organ failure commonplace, and people live on genetically engineered organs that are repossessed if their owners fall behind in payments. It's such a cool idea that you really want to like it, but the obstacle... read more is that it's a musical without one hummable tune or memorable lyric. Unfortunately, the poor execution in this one has set back the cause of gory horror/sci-fi/black comedy musicals by about 30 years.

A breath of fresh air in these formula times. While everyone else cashes in on old titles, brands and superheros, the film is surprisingly unique. Totally new age and ultra hip, it makes u feel you hang somewhere between the future and the past. A totally non-earthy feel, yet hum... read morean storyline and characters makes for a strangely 'happy' movie. The is story is marvelously set by the comic strips in the introduction, on to which the whole family/love drama is pasted on. The musics great, especially 'Zydrate Anatomy' and throughout the movie the story and dialoges are brilliantly delivered in songs, and even if your are not a fan of musicals, this will make you want more. BRILLIANT!!, although the ending could have been more ... dramatic

As it has evolved from a 10-minute cabaret piece, through a short film Bousman made in Toronto, to the big screen, Repo! The Genetic Opera has gained in both guts and gusto. Full Review
