Was fun and the kids enjoyed it. I think i expected more considering the cast. The kids in this are both going to be good actors at the rate they are going and well it had the Rock.

This sci-fi adventure aims mostly at a young audience and maybe they would even have fun with this. As an adult, there is very little of interest here. The Rock has been more charismatic in films, it feels as if he didn't really want to be there. The plot is rather predictable an... read mored far from being a "race". Sure, the film is fast enough not to get boring but the editing is rather bumpy and the story so full of stereotypes you feel you've seen it all before and much better. Most chances to have a little fun with geek and sci-fi-cliches, for example at the convention, are completely wasted. At least it's over rather quickly.

Dwayne Johnson should have stuck with wrestling, because he's not a very good actor. Despite his lousy efforts in this movie, however, it's not bad overall. Very rushed and cheesily written, but at least it never bored me. Neat special effects and a decent Disney feature, worth w... read moreatching once. I hope to God though that "The Rock" will throw in the towel soon. Because he added nothing to the film, but an auto-piloted, painfully strained, where's-my-check type of performance.

Boring and cheesy, Dwayne is on a tipping point with these kids movies.

Jack Bruno: You do know how to fly this thing, right?
Seth: How did you think we got here?
Jack Bruno: Well, you crashed, remember?

Not a lot to recommend here. The film is passable enough as light family action fare. It helps that you have someone as likable as The Rock and th... read moree very attractive Carla Gugino in lead roles. This flick remakes the Escape to Witch Mountain plot and does so by amping up the special effects and action.

Our main character is Jack Bruno, played by the Rock, an ex-convict, ex-mob enforcer turned cab driver with a heart of gold, now living in Las Vegas. During the weekend of some kind of UFO convention, Jack manages to wind up with two teenagers in his cab. Before long, Jack learns that these aren't just ordinary teens, they are in fact aliens trying to find their spaceship, at Witch Mountain, so they can get home and save earth (do I really need to elaborate on that more?). Hot on there tail are the feds, led by Burke (Ciaran Hinds) who are looking to of course experiment on the aliens in question. Also joined by a UFO expert (Carla Gugino) Jack and co. must fight to make it to Witch Mountain in time.

While I haven't been quite pleased with what Dwayne Johnson's choices have been in terms of film roles, I can at least enjoy the fact that he is a very charismatic guy, and with that being said, I had enough fun watching him here. The movie is really dumb, don't get me wrong, but it's a fun kind of dumb, acceptable for families, and features The Rock.

Being a remake, this film certainly goes the bigger is better route, and pumps up the visual effects and action quotient. For the most part it's successful. Enough excitement is generated when it needs to be and it all flows quite easily along to be enough of a distraction.

Sara: He require some sort of proof. He thinks we're insulting his intelligence.
Jack Bruno: YOU THINK? You just can't just drop the "we're aliens" bomb, just like that on somebody.

Good visuals are destroyed by bad acting and a lame story in Race to Witch Mountain.
  • May 5, 2010
    It was an awesome movie!

Andy Fickman's Race to Witch Mountain is everything a PG Disney film should be.

The pacing for this 90+ minute production is fairly quick. The characters are always on the move and there is very little down time to get to know the characters. Of course, that doesn't me

... read morean that they are underdeveloped. The story elements and dialogue are simple and straight to the point. There is no mystery and secrecy with anything and all is revealed clearly at the appropriate times.

The film does have its share of effects and action. Both range from so-so to pretty good. There is nothing overly impressive.

The Rock squeezes by, as he seems to be just going through the motions. However, he finds a way to entertain every now and then. Carla Gugino, Alexander Ludwig, and AnnaSophia Robb all deliver with their characters. Robb's mixture of dialogue and line delivery is fantastic. "You already know the answers, Jack Bruno. My brother and I are indeed not from your planet."

Race to Witch Mountain isn't anything to brag about. It is very kid friendly and makes for a nice family film. This is Disney after all.

Well, even this one is a Disney's, but my decision not to have a great expectation about this movie was right, because it's just a decent entertaining movie... Yes it's true that this movie was entertain me, but it's still had a decent story.. It's nice to know that Disney had th... read moreis movie so at least the effect wasn't disappoint me... And Dwayne Johnson was 'good' at this movie... At least he wasn't do ridiculous thing like he already did before in 'The Game Plan' or his next project 'Tooth Fairy'... And anyway, it's a nice movie to be watched after all...

The planet-hopping children have special talents -- telekinesis, telepathy etc. -- although it is the high-wattage lovability of Mr. Rock that's the real superpower on display here. Full Review
