A grieving widow finds her husband's warmth radiating from the afterlife when she discovers that he left her a series of tasks to be revealed in ten monthly messages and designed to help her overcome ... read more read more...her sorrow while gradually making the transition into a new life. Holly Kennedy (Hilary Swank) is a New York real estate broker whose good-humored husband, Irishman Gerry (Gerard Butler), always stood by her side. Suddenly, and seemingly out of nowhere, Gerry succumbs to a brain tumor and Holly is left to face an uncertain future. No one in the world knows Holly better than Gerry, not even her mother (Kathy Bates) or her best friends, Sharon (Gina Gershon) and Denise (Lisa Kudrow). But while Holly remains unsure if she can go on without the love of her life to help guide her, Gerry has planned ahead. On Holly's 30th birthday, she receives a cake and a special tape recording from Gerry that implores her to get out and celebrate instead of staying in and mourning. Later, as the months wear on, a series of additional messages arrive from Gerry -- always delivered in the most remarkable and surprising of ways. With each new message comes a new adventure, and each letter signs off in the same familiar way: "P.S. I love you." Despite the fact that Holly's mother and friends think these humorous, posthumous messages are keeping Holly bound to the past, the truth is that they are lovingly guiding her into the future while proving that sometimes death isn't just the end, but a new beginning as well. Director Richard LaGravenese teams with screenwriter Steve Rogers to adapt author Cecelia Ahern's best-selling novel. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This film was absolutely heart wrenching. How this got bad reviews I will never know. Gerard Butler and Jefferey Dean Morgan had their Irish accents perfect and made you fall in love with them. Hilary Swank was amazing and the ending makes you cry every time. Credit to all of the... read more cast! A must see film!

    Interesting movie

Wow, Gerard Butler is such a babe! He's adorable in this movie too. The movie itself is sad-cute-but-mostly-sad. A lot of laughs with some tears. It gives you that false sense of hope that a love like that is out there.. it's a total chick-flick.

Annoying dialogue starts this movie off. It's the typical kind of dialogue written by somebody thinking they are clever, however the stale cliches they throw out just highlight their lack of imagination. So after Swank and Butler piss me off for 12 minutes, Butler dies and the fi... read morelm is a look at love, life and letting go. It's similar to other movies like this, there's a nice guy that is understanding of the widow's situation, but by the end he is an angry and unpleasant person. There are some excellently hilarious lines, but this hits neither the tear jerking moments, nor the uplifting feel that it's aiming for.

Me and my bf watched this movie in the theater today. It was the only movie available as we've already seen other ones. And it wasn't in my list (pending). So basically, this was just a time pass. Honestly I didn't like this movie that much. My bf was skeptical. It does have some... read more funny scenes that will bring a smile on your face for a moment. The story was touching (the part: losing husband in such a young age). But I think this movie is overrated.

PS. I love you is original, I'll give it that, it's just unnecessarily long and could do with 20 mins cut from the middle. It's sweet but towards the end you will have well gotten over any grief you may have felt and perhaps care very little as to what the characters futures hold... read more. Credit for originality though.

Holly embarks on a touching, exciting, and often hilarious journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship, and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life

So sappy didn't even finish watching it.

Didn't even finish it. I just didn't feel Swank was the choice for the role.

    • William: So who's the cook?
    • Denise: I am.

    • Denise: We all helped.
    • Sharon: [scoffs, picks up dishes] Denise is getting married. Isn't that great?
    • Denise: Sharon's pregnant!
    • Denise: I hate cosmetics companies. They get you addicted to the perfect lipstick or nail polish, and then six months later, they discontinue it. You have to buy your favorite color, it's like your storing up for the apocalypse. That was my last bottle.
    • Denise: Mmm, oh he's delicious, isn't he? I can serve coffee on that ass.
    • John: Do you have to be so vulgar about men, like they're pieces of meat?
    • Denise: Sorry John, I forgot you're sensitive about your flat ass.
    • John: You know, Denise, that's why you're not married.
    • Sharon: [clears throat]
    • John: Women act like men, then they complain men don't want them.
    • Denise: Oh, is that why? Oh, ok, 'cause I thought it was something different. I thought it was because I thought I deserve the best. And he's out there, he's just with all the wrong women. And let me be clear, after centuries of men looking at my tits, instead of eyes, and pinching my ass, instead of shaking my hand, I now have the divine right to stare at a man's backside with vulgar, cheap, appreciation if I want to.
    • Sharon: Well said.
    • Daniel: I thought so.
    • Daniel: We're so arrogant, aren't we? So afraid of age, we do everything we ... We don't realize what a privilege it is to grow old with someone. Someone who doesn't drive you to commit murder or doesn't humiliate you beyond repair.
    • Gerry: And know that wherever I am, I'm missing you. Happy birthday. I love you.
