The insurance company doesn't believe their story about what happened to their house, so Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), and their kids, Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) and Robbie (Oliver Robins), have been reduced to living in the home of Diane's mother, Jess (Geraldine Fitzgerald). Unfortunately for the Freelings, however, their new residence, just like their last, is situated on a haunted patch of unholy ground. A century before, the mad cult leader Kane (Julian Beck) slaughtered his followers nearby, and his evil spirit has returned in an effort to kidnap Carol Anne. When the Freelings realize what's happening, they call upon the psychic medium Tangina Barrons (Zelda Rubinstein) to help them again, and they also receive aid from a kindly Native American spiritualist, Taylor (Will Sampson). Noticeably absent from the sequel was older daughter Dana, who had been played by actress Dominique Dunne; Dunne was killed in 1982 by her obsessed boyfriend. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Kane: You're all gonna die in there! All of you! You are gonna die!

    "They're back."

Poltergeist is a great film and one of my favorite horror films of all-time. Like all great horror films before and after it, there must be sequels. They have to capitalize on successful stuff ... read moreand I don't mind that. I love watching remakes, prequels and sequels, and most of the time, even if their bad I can still some extent enjoy what I'm watching. That is the case here with Poltergeist II: The Other Side. It is such an awful movie, yet at times I had some fun with it. I liked the explanation of the Reverend Kane, and I just liked the Kane character period. He had such a spooky look to his face and the sound of his voice was frightening to a degree. Aside from that though, this is not the sequel I was hoping for.

The same family from the first one moves into another house and yet the same stuff begins to happen again. They still want Carol Anne. The family has to stay together to fight off the evil spirits that want to take Carol Anne. The plot isn't too much different than the first one in those regards, but it does differ, in that the family isn't trying to rescue Carol Anne from another world, but are trying to keep her out.

This isn't anything special and is actually a below average horror sequel. That should tell you everything. Think about some of the terrible sequels out there. If you're a fan of the first one, you should still watch this because there are little plot elements that you will probably be able to enjoy. Just don't expect a genre masterpiece like, Poltergeist. Expect something more along the lines of  Halloween 6 quality and you'll be fine.

Okay there are some scarier part in this movie more than the first one. But I actually laughed at the end. Well it's pretty old movie so nothing advanced was expected at that time. I'm sure there were a lot of people was scared by seeing this.

Not a fantastic sequel. Julien Back's Kane is one of cinemas most creepy characters though, the fact that he was actually riddled with cancer and weeks from a death he was expecting, gives it an extra eerie feel. Sends shivers down my spine just thinking about it. Shame the film ... read moredoesn't have the same impact. Will Sampson's good though and Noble Craig's CV is hilarious, imdb him!

    They're baaaaaack!
More paranormal fun with the Freelings!

Poltergeist II was only half as effective as its predessor. There were some haunted toy scenes and a great new scary-as-hell evil Quaker-ish Priest named "Kane" leering at the family, a gross Tequila bottle mutant worm attack, and the little Robbie's braces attacking him from his... read more mouth. This movie promised a visit to the other side where the ghosts live; it seemed cheap and quick. I liked the Indian magic they used to defend themselves from the evil ghost attacks. I liked the subplot with Carol Ann's Grandmother. Tangina made a brief appearance too. It somewhat saddened things that the teenaged daughter from the first film was absent here. Any scene with Kane the preacher was freaky. I was disappointed with this sequel.

They're baaaaaack! Fine scary ghosts, but spectacular special effects and excellent ensemble acting.

A quality sequel to the classic ghost movie; it ditches the light tone and laughs from the original film, and instead concentrates on the chills; the ghoulish evangelist is genuinely creepy. It only misses the mark at the very end, by insisting on showing "the other side" in chee... read moresy special effects rather than leaving it to the imagination.

A horrible sequel which gets 30% for a some great effects but the story is sort of rehash and again they live on haunted ground. Nelson and Williams looked bored and the plot was just silly not scary. A Big disappointment.

Maybe not as well directed and played as the original but I found this one even scarier then the first

The first one was superior of course, but the pale guy who's after Anne is pretty creepy. It's not perfect, yet it's far better than the 3rd film.
