A dangerous government experiment has unleashed an abominable contamination that turns normal people into murderous mutants. Now, as an infinitely multiplying horde of frenzied psychotics flood the Texas plains, a dangerous outlaw named Wray (Freddy Rodriguez), a sexy stripper named Cherry (Rose McGowan), an unscrupulous smuggler named Abby (Naveen Andrews), and the curiously incapacitated Dr. Dakota Block (Marley Shelton) must try and make their way to the helicopter that could provide their only means of escaping to a place untouched by this nightmarish scourge that threatens to wipe out all of humankind. This nonstop action-horror hybrid originally was released as part of Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's ambitious Grindhouse double bill. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

It was a huge risk for Rodriguez and Tarantino making the grindhouse double feature and attempting to revive the genre, and I had low expectations from the start. But Planet Terror worked. I felt like I was watching a good old fashioned grindhouse movie like Rodriguez envisioned.... read more It was bang right on the awareness level with a mix of totally tasteless gore combined with the grindhouse humour. It's a pretty decent film that was well executed and I felt like it belonged. I've never seen Tarantino's contribution "Death Proof" but I have great confidence that Planet Terror will be hard to top.

With the zombie sub-genre of films, there is one law that has been formed ever sense the 1960s: Ever Zombie film made pays homage to that of George A. Romero and him reinventing the entire Zombie image. With Planet Terror, what we get is a blood soaked tribute that is just shocki... read moreng, yet beyond entertaining to watch. Originally part of the film GRINDHOUSE, Planet Terror was Robert Rodriguez's contribute to the film and his is one that has little brain, heart, or stomach but does had a lot of fun into the mix. My reaction to seeing this was that this is my type of B-Movie. Everything from the gritty look of the film to the missing reel half way through, this is a film that is just great to watch with friends (or if you want to gross each other out). Okay, let's get down to the details. Robert Rodriguez, as a director, has always had a soft spot in my heart for his films. Known for making the beloved Mexico Trilogy, Spy Kids series, and Sin City, this film was right up his ally to make. Now, seeing as how he directs this movie, something tells me that he borrowed a lot of director John Carpenter's horror films while making this movie. Things from certain music cues to the pacing in some areas, it just pays homage to him. But, if I had to pick the best scene that he directed in this film, it would have to be the opening credits. Just, how he captures the, um, loveliness of Cherry Darling (Rose McGowan) is just wonderful. But the thing that tops most of it off is that he does not take himself seriously at all and that is what makes this film work. Next is the acting. Most of the acting is over the top with all of the actresses acting like bad ass babes and all of the guys acting like typical tough guys. They all went out of their way to show how ruthless they can be, and while it is all great, the only one person that needs mentioning is Rose McGowan as Cherry Darling. All I am going to say is that: her playing a character that goes through hell and back that includes, but is not limited to, her leg getting ripped off and a machine gun being it's replacement, McGowan just gives it her all to act like this tough chick. Next the script. Like I said, this is a film that does not take itself seriously nor does it go and try to be anything else other then a homage to Grindhouse films and in that respect, it works. Just, expect a lot of one dimensional characters and scenes of heavy violence. Finally the score. Like most of Rodriguez's films, the music has a certain influence of Mexican culture into it. But what makes this film different is that there is that influence of John Carpenter's music that makes each scene a little creepy. Overall, this is not the best of the GRINDHOUSE films, but for what it is, it is a blast. The only other thing that I think I need to mention is that before this film begins, there is a fake trailer for the film MACHETE that is shown. All I am going to say is that that trailer is worth the price of this film. Even more in terms of what it lead to.

Planet terror is a terrific film with a dark, gritty look. The film looks unsettling, and it looks cheap, which adds a certain creative element to the film. The film is action packed, it's comical, it's bloody and gory and it's one great zombie film to watch. It's one of the most... read more creative zombie films I've seen in a long time, and is possibly one of the most original ones since 28 Days Later. Planet Terror has a solid cast and is action packed with awesome horror elements thrown in to make this a thrilling, horrifying action packed ride.

The first film in this high-octane old fashioned double feature is one hell of a fun ride. With a wildly amusing gruesome premise, Planet Terror proves that action films are far from over. With fresh dialogue and awesome action, this movie rocks! Even though sometimes the action ... read moregoes over-the-top and the dialogue becomes a bit cheesy at moments, it's still a great run. I did expect a bit more from Rodriguez, but what I received was still a great film, even if I thought about throwing up a few times!

I've seen a fairly large segment of this film and don't understand either of the two negative reviews at all. I classed it as a zombie flick and as such found it a good addition to the genre. Anyone who has seen any of Rodriquez's previous work will not be in the least bit surprised by anything in this film and will probably enjoy as such. If you like the Horror genre, especially Zombies, which are thankfully making a return to cinema, you will find a special place in your dark and twisted hearts for this. I have and can't wait to see it on the big screen. Makes a refreshing change from the horror pap that's come out of Hollywood in the last decade

This was what I expected. It's really hard to rate these movies as they are designed to mimic over the top sci-fi action movies. Was the acting great? Definitely the better of the grind-house features. Brilliant! Planet Terror is full of gorgeous women, zombies, and random explosions, and it's funny as hell, to boot.
