Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns to the screen for another round of supernatural adventures on the high seas in this spirited sequel to the 2003 Disney hit, which re-teams original director ... read more read more...Gore Verbinski with original screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. As Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) prepare to exchange vows at the altar, their wedding plans hit rough waters with the arrival of sea-bound scallywag Jack Sparrow. It seems that Sparrow owes a substantial blood debt to half-octopus sea captain Davy Jones (Bill Nighy), and that the only way for the flamboyant sea rover to elude the wrath of his otherworldly pursuer is to seek the aid of mysterious and powerful voodoo priestess Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), whose ability to resurrect the dead and gaze into the future may provide just the advantage needed to avoid a waterlogged fate in the locker of his legendary nemesis. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A fun ride like its predecessor setting up what should be a fun finale. Depp, Bloom, and Knightly shine. Good supporting cast as well.

Just as good, if not a little bit better than Curse of the Black Pearl. This time out, the film is longer, the plot more complex (just slightly muddled), and in need of trimming, but honestly, i don't know where to make cuts to this film. The acting is (as always) awesome, the st... read moreunts and action sequences thrilling, the costumes, make-up cinematography and special effects are gorgeous and brilliant, and all around, this is a fun and exhillirating movie.

Everything Depp does in this movie is completely predictable for all who've seen the first Pirates movie and its packed with even more infectious CGI and its even more stretched than the first one.

The best in the trilogy in my opinion, a polishing in everything that made the first good and bad. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) witnesess Will Turners (Orlando Bloom) father, Bootsrap Bill Turner. He tells Jack that Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) is sending a best after Jack because he ... read morehas not repaid him for a long ago favor. Davy Jones will send the Krakyn, and so Jack decides to head to the nearest land. Will and Elizibeth (Keira Knightly) have their wedding interrupted by being sent to jail for help Jack in the first film, and the only way to save them both is if Will gos and gets Jacks Compass that is very special. Jack promises to give him the compass if he helps him find the key to Dead mans Chest, a chest that holds the heart of Davy Jones. This journey is more adventorous, because of the slaved crew members, the horror that is Davy Jones, cannibal island dwellers, and the Krakyn. The plot is amazing, it truly is what we want from an amazing pirates movie. Jack is just as funny and cool as before, and even more mysterious of his intentions. The cast is great again and Bill Nighy was great as Davy Jones. The efffects were my only problem with the first film, now they have re done it and it looks gorceous. Dead Mans Chest is a genius film. changed for the better.

Seriously dislike this installment. Worst pirates movie (I don't like any of them that much anyway).

POTC never fail to amuse! Amazing! A must see!

The quirky charm of the first film is replaced with a mean-spirited dark tone. Jack Sparrow is no longer the lovable eccentric drunk pirates from the first film. In Pirates 2, he comes across as manipulative jerk. I had trouble liking any of the characters in this film because... read more they kept double-crossing each other. The plot of the film lacks the originality of the first film. The plot mostly suffers from being overly complicated, overly busy, and poorly paced in a few spots. The most fascinating character in the film was Davy Jones played by Billy Nighly. Despite these flaws, Pirates 2 does manage to be sporadically thrilling. The Kraken is the biggest highlight of the film.. Pirates 2 lacks the freshness of the first film, but it has enough thrills to make it barely passable.

    Longer, darker, in a chest.

Even though I think the 1st Pirates movie is the best, this has the most action, and the better effects. The only thing really that holds it back is that it doesn't have an ending, it's just a middle movie. But even for a middle movie, it is fantastic. I think the sword fight ... read morebetween Jack, Will, and Norrington is probably the best sword fight in movie history(if you think one is better, let me know I'd love to see it). Plus, the Krakken and Davy Jones are just plain awesome. Very entertaining and really leaves you wanting more.

The second instalment of the unbelievable box office franchise is here, and it even improves over the original. I first though that the original was just an amazing adventure film with a ton of comedy thrown in by Johnny Depp, but I was knocked into the sky when I saw this film. ... read moreFrom the incredible adventure, to the gut-splitting humour, this film truly proves that sequels can be better!

The new plot has all the appeal of a seaweed sandwich, being dark, salty, and indigestible.

This second film is pretty much all thrills, special effects and nonstop action -- but with virtually no cohesive or compelling story line. Full Review

'Complications arose, ensued, were overcome,' Jack says at one point. Not entirely, but Dead Man's Chest is worth weighing anchor for, regardless. Full Review

In every other way -- as adventure yarn or as satire on that form or merely as an enjoyable entertainment featuring a wonderfully sly and subtle actor -- it is not merely a loser. It is a disaster. Full Review

For the most part, Dead Man's Chest stands on its own and even makes a few halfhearted attempts to say something.

Although there are memorable bits and pieces, the new Pirates of the Caribbean is a movie with no particular interest in coherence, economy or feeling.
