Ernesto Gastaldi's script is thin on characterization and logic but delivers all the elaborate murder setpieces, red herrings and radical plot twists the genre requires. Director Giuliano Carnimeo avoids allowing the viewer to dwell on the gimmicky nature of the storytelling by maintaining a snappy pace and trotting out a vast array of eye-catching visual devices (zooms, fish-eye lens shots, point-of-view camerawork) to keep the viewer's eye dazzled throughout. The performances are limited by the weak characterizations but Edwige Fenech is easy on the eyes as the film's heroine and George Hilton makes a decent square-jawed hero. All these elements make Perche Quelle Strane Gocce Di Sangue Sul Corpo Di Jennifer? a fast-paced, occasionally startling piece of macabre eye candy.     Very good Giallo with a fun side to go with it's viciousness. It's a typical generic example of the sub-genre but it does everything so well to elevate it above many others. Good pacing, violent deaths, likeable characters, plenty of suspects, georgeous women and some bare flesh.... read more One of my favourite Giallos!

    A giallo where the two main characters aren't interesting, but the movie gets you on their side anyway. The plot modestly draws us along, and comes together pretty well around a variety of lunatic events.

    Hilton and Fenech are very good separately here, though their chemistry t... read moreogether isn't as good as in other movies. Hilton does a good giallo-style Cary Grant. And he has a better fight scene than I remember Cary Grant ever having. Frano Augstini gets comic relief and some humanity into the movie out of the stock supporting role of the half-competent, half-bumbling policeman.

    The camera movement has very little poetry and doesn't contribute atmosphere, but there is a lot of swish-zoom work that doesn't stick out and makes fast connections between framings. Giallo fans could focus on this aspect of the movie alone, because it's a masterly example of the use of zoom and handheld camera in the genre. On the other hand, the movie also has a very generous perception of how much light is created in a dark room by one match.

    The literal translation of the title is "What are those strange drops of blood doing on Jennifer's body?" Good question. Here's another one: What makes drops of blood on a body "strange drops" of blood? Are they square-shaped or something? In fact, one of the characters is afraid of blood, and any drops that end up on the person of our sexy heroine, Jennifer, are not strange at all, just red and icky like usual. The epilogue of the movie is unnecessary but seems to celebrate all the trashiness that has transpired.

    A pretty poor giallo starring the lovely Edwige Fenech. The plot - what there is of one - has no drive whatsoever, so it's basically just a collection of less than expertly handled set-pieces with a little gratuitous nudity to stop us nodding off completely. Some of the dialogue ... read moreis terrible: "But how did your hands get to be burned like that? Can that be the reason you're hiding your face?" As so often with the giallo genre, the director cheats like hell until the very last minute to conceal the identity of the killer.

    "Case of the Bloody Iris" is a very solid giallo that plays more off the murder mystery/sexy ambiance rather than shock value through gore.
    I recommend it for anyone who like a well made Giallo

    This is a grest example of a kick ass Giallo. Fantastic score and it also has the beautiful Edwige Fenech. A great place to start if your thinking of getting into this genre

    An Italian thriller of the highest caliber. This film captures the early 70s Giallo mania perfectly. It's silly, superficial, and sleazy. Watch this as soon as you can.

    Certainly not the world's best giallo but it's quite good and works as kind of guidebook to this type of film. All the ingredients are here: the heroine in danger, the cop who's in over his head, the creepy suspects (several of them), sexual deviancy (in this case, a lesbian nei... read moreghbor.) Let me put it this way: if you've never seen a giallo, this one will give you a pretty good idea what they're like. It's stylish, violent and a lot of fun. Check it out.
