Penelope (Christina Ricci) is cursed with a pig nose so her family are in pursuit of a suitor who will break the curse. James McAvoy is great in this movie. A bit of an unusual role for Reese Witherspoon but she's great too. It is certificate U but some scenes might be a bit scar... read more

It definitely lulled in the middle and a few other parts. But it was still a cutey. I love fairy tales and love, so this was some winners. Plus James McAvoy is crazy fucking hot. So yummy. And Catherine O'Hara is genius always and forever.

this wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. i thought it was going to be horrible but it was actually a good
movie. it's nothing special or great and it's cliches and predictable and wierd at times but it's sweet and isn't really stupid or boring like most kids movies. B- -

Penelope makes you want to stop being so vain, and start being a bit more of a flexible person. Worth seeing indefinitely.

I think this is probably one of the most tolerable modern fairy tale's i've seen. The cast was really great and James McAvoy and Christina Ricci really worked well together. The story has a really good message and it avoids most of the cliches that come with stories like these.

All that fuss over a snout? I've seen uglier pushing strollers in town centres. The film is average. Its 'message', its plot, the way it was shot...all average. Even Richard E. Grant was average, and he is rarely ever that mundane an actor. Ronni Ancona was WASTED in her pitifull... read more

Here's the thing....I get it, it's a fantasy and it's not for people like me who have given up on the world and are completely cynical, but that doesn't mean you can throw out all logic to tell the story. It looked and felt like one of those movies that is on at Best Buy during t... read more

While uneven, this Ugly Duckling redux is hipper and funnier than a Disney movie, and the positive message to young girls can't be discounted. Full Review
The semi-satirical treatment of celebrity culture, as Penelope is treated first as a tabloid sensation then a media darling, is lame and dated. Full Review
Director Palansky and screenwriter Leslie Caveny seem to have many of the right ingredients for creating something beguiling, but the film is, finally, surprisingly pedestrian. What a shame, with all ... Full Review
The picture has a hapless, meandering quality that's tolerable at first but ultimately becomes maddening, as if it were a cartoon narrative recounted by a distracted 4-year-old. Full Review
Penelope was in a trough of trouble before the oink on the script was dry. Full Review
Under Mark Palansky's uninspired direction, magic eludes Penelope in scene after scene. Full Review
This could have been a perfect choice for the Enchanted set, if only its charms were more than skin-deep. Full Review
Perhaps the best reason to recommend Penelope is that it offers an opportunity to watch Catherine O'Hara in action as the alarming Mrs. Wilhern. Full Review
It's broadly comic, sweetly sentimental and sharply satirical at times -- particularly when it takes on the concept of celebrity -- and both parents and kids should walk away satisfied if not quite el... Full Review
