He is gone for a long time and when he returns home, joyously bearing gifts and money for the family, he is shocked to discover that his mother has married a policeman. It makes it worse that they have moved to a bigger home. Mehrollah considers his mother's sudden marriage an insulting implication that he was not man enough to support them. He therefore rejects his stepfather and refuses to enter the new house, preferring instead to live in the old home. His best friend Latif acts as a willing go-between for Mehrollah and his family. Meanwhile, the angry young boy vents his feelings by vandalizing his mother's new home. One day he becomes terribly ill and thanks to Latif, is finally taken to the new home to recover. Once he is better, Mehrollah steals his step father's gun and returns to the city to force his former employer to pay all the wages he owes the boy. The step-father decides to teach the boy a lesson and heads off to arrest him. They are heading back from the city when the cop's motorcycle breaks down. Now the two adversaries have no choice but to walk across the desert with no food or water to get home.     Another film by Majid Majidi. He proofed himself to make films simple but with artistic touches. An adolescent son workng for his family comes back and finds that his mother remarried a policeman. With all fury he hates his step father without finding out what sort of man he was... read more. He runs away and the stepfather searches for him and finds him. On their return journey they have to undergo hardships while traveling through desert and empathy builds up between them. Majidi's touches are in many scenes like the accident which killed the boys father was shown with the boy at the scene, he knows when to stop the narrative. The boy and the stepfather lying dehydrated over a stream,. The photograph of the stepfather with his mother and sisters drifting from the pocket of the stepfather and stops at the nose of the boy indicating reconciliation and the boy's discovery of a new father. And then he ends the film. I get used now by the abrupt ending in his films. The best acting is by the mother, a suffering poor woman who is torn between the love to the son and to the man who is her husband now. Great story, I love most of Majid Majidi's film till now.
