Reared by the Wampanoag tribe following a failed attempt by the Vikings to raid coastal villages for slaves, a ten-year-old shipwreck survivor is nicknamed "Ghost" by his adoptive tribe due to his pale complexion and blond hair. Legend says that death and destruction will follow the boy wherever he travels, yet the peaceful people of the Wampanoag tribe selflessly take the frightened child in as if he is one of their own. Over the course of the following decade, the adopted young Norseman eventually grows into a strong warrior (Karl Urban) determined to prove his worth to the people he calls family. When the rampaging Vikings return to the New World to rain destruction down on the Native Americans and to claim the fertile land of the peaceful people, Ghost finds himself in the precarious position of having to stop his own people from destroying his village and ruthlessly slaughtering the woman he loves (Moon Bloodgood). Now, as Ghost's true destiny is revealed by the powerful shaman known as the Pathfinder (Russell Means), the fearless warrior sets out to stage a savage one-man war on the marauding Vikings and become the savior once prophesied to defend the Wampanoag people in their darkest hour. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I was somewhere in the middle on this one. It was a decent film with good action and a decent story but something left me wanting. Im still not sure what.

Fictional story about Viking raiders landing in modern day North America and fighting against native American Indians as they try to colonize.

Loving the idea for this pitting different types of native tribes against each other, nice concept which was taken up by 'Dark Horse' co... read moremics and made into an equally decent graphic novel with amazing brooding artwork.

The film is highly stylised much like the graphic novel and looks gorgeous, the whole film is virtually in black, white and grey with hints of faded colour and only broken by the spray of blood spilt during some brutal battles.

Its not entirely accurate of course with the Vikings being really built up and laden with heavy metal armour and horned helmets to make them look fierce, it does work as they look amazing and powerful but obviously more comicbook than reality, almost a 'Conan' feel to them really. The American Indians also look really good and much more realistic with some lovely costume and adornment design along with good makeup and hair styling. But its the cast used for the Indians that adds real class, Russell Means as a tribal chieftain really gives the film a more believeable feel.

The whole film basically one lavish set piece after another with not much dialog but there doesn't need to be as the plot is the most used and basic going. Local young tribesman leaves village, village gets destroyed by nasty barbarian types, young man comes back, gets upset and vows revenge, gets it, the end. Although the stunts and battles are tremendous looking the film is pretty shallow and offers nothing more really, unlike '300' which is based on truth this film is fictional so it feels more of a silly fantasy film than anything.

I did enjoy the film and if you like '300' then you will probably like this as its even more slick and brooding than that really, a real living graphic novel but probably helped by the release of '300'. I did enjoy the use of subs for the Vikings which really added to the quality (real Icelandic) and the rest of the cast is decent with Urban possibly in his best film so far, gets a little loose towards the end but this is a fine historical cum fictional offering if you enjoy savage clashes.

Disappointed with this one even though it was OK. Interesting clash of cultures but overall it was rather forgettable. Wasn't as bloody as I was expecting it to be either.

Wow!! It seems like people either really hated this movie, or REALLY liked it!!! You can put me in the really, really liked it category. Pathfinder is a so-so action film with a mediocre cast. As being interested in the vikings, I was bound to view this film, I knew right away that this film would not be authentic, and it would be pure Hollywood bull. I was right, thought an entertaining popcorn flick, Pathfinder... read more lacks any emotion that many period epics has example: 300, Braveheart. Pathfinder seems that the filmmakers used this formula to make the film:

    Vikings+large amounts of violence=BIG $$

I like no brainer action films, but this film I found too hard to follow, and lacked the potential to create a terrific Viking film. Pathfinder is a mediocre average Viking action film, but theres nothing special to be had here.

Marcus Nispel's Pathfinder melds the Native Americans and Vikings into a mediocre action adventure.

Very light on the plot, Pathfinder is essentially a 95 minute cat and mouse hunt. A cat and mouse hunt with plenty of action and unimpressive editing. The Native

... read moreAmerican and Viking portrayal is stereotypical with nothing that stands out, and this leaves the initial story and character setup bland and uneventful. With that said, once the chase begins it continues to the very end.

The action materializes frequently with little in the way of thrilling style, although it is more on the bloody violent side. Still, a lot of it is uninspiring and unmemorable.

Pathfinder is all Karl Urban and a little bit of Moon Bloodgood and Clancy Brown. There isn't much to say about Karl Urban's acting, except that he gets by. Moon Bloodgood is just about the looks and Clancy Brown is a convincing barbarous viking.

Pathfinder does very little to stand out and is probably only worth taking a look at for the action. Then again, maybe not.

Completely fun and very much a forgotten 80s epic. Vikings Vs. Native Americans, it doesn't get more brutal than that. The set design and costumes are glorious, almost no CGI. The action looks and feels real and Vikings have never looked any more threatening. It's a simple story,... read more but extremely effective. Karl Urban is a great one man army against Clancy Brown and his hellbound pack of savages. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this movie, it's just plain fun.

Really wanted to cower at this celluloid spectacle's physical presence. The elements were present: marauding, pillaging Vikings displaying brutal, forceful dominance; an indigenous Tribe of Native Americans adoption of one 'forgotten Viking son' as their own; the lone, hybrid War... read morerior; a battle for existence in the balance. Yet, it disappoints. A combination of 'The 13th Warrior', 'The Last of the Mohicans' and 'The New World' at best. Karl Urban (Kirill in 'The Bourne Supremacy') plays the brooding Ghost, the adopted Viking. Russell Means **** in 'The Last of the Mohicans') the Tribal Pathfinder and Clancy Brown (no explanation required) the dastardly head Viking Gunnar. Throw in sexy gal Starfire (Moon Bloodgood, that's the female actors name - honest) and a Director (Marcus Nispel) who cut his teeth doing Pop Promos for the likes of Billy Joel, Janet Jackson and George Michael. Don't judge, everyone starts somewhere. The direction and lavish visuals are excellent - a treat. But not enough to prevent numb-bum syndrome. At times the line between 'Pathfinder' and 'The Last of the Mohicans' blurs, certain Daniel Day-Lewis was poking around in the woods. Action sequences are good, but nothing especially new or invigorating. Someone can only be chopped up by sword in so many ways. All that said, go see it or rent it. Can't hurt. If it does, it'll only be your bum.

This gory battle adventure is stealing from a lot of films but doesn't have much to offer all by itself. A little "Last of the Mohicans", a lot of "13th warrior" and lots of violence. The script would fit on one sheet of paper, the dialogs on even less. Conan was babbling compare... read mored to this. Not even the action is convincing, it is oddly slow paced and additionally shot in slow motion. It's not as if the movie has no interesting ideas at all, but they are all ruined by stereotypes and the bad writing. Just try guessing in which order the characters will die, it's quite simple. The decision to make the villains faceless barbarians with very few human features kills any interesting aspect the shown conflict could have. The revenge, laying traps, faking cooperation...it's all been done before and much better. Skip this.

Don't think this has anything to do with reality. I have seen the 1000 AD Viking settlement in Newfoundland; they were not this wild. But history aside, it makes for a fine good vs. evil story.
