The flight he's on is occupied by a coterie of FBI agents escorting the lethal terrorist Charles Rane (Bruce Payne), but as the aircraft is taking off, Rane's associates, who have also boarded the plane, take the vehicle by force and free their leader. With the aid of a sheriff on the ground, a pair of stewardesses (Alex Datcher and Elizlabeth Hurley) and his old friend, airport manager Sly Delvecchio (Tom Sizemore), Cutter puts his special training and martial arts skills to good use combating the kidnappers. The clever, dapper Rane has several surprises in store for his nemesis, however, including killing a hostage and an ally who's only pretending to be on Cutter's side. His options becoming increasingly limited, Cutter devises a dangerous plan that involves dumping the airplane's precious fuel reserves. Director Kevin Hooks cast his father, actor Robert Hooks in the role of federal agent Dwight Henderson. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Very typical of the 90's Action films, way over the top with lots of expensive things being blown up and everybody getting an ass-kicking.

Corny, predictable and a disappointing re-visit to a film that was better off having just been watched at it's release.

Passenger 57 is yet again a guilty pleasure of mine. The film is a cheap rip off of Diehard. The film feels cheap, but I kinda like it for some strange reason. The film has a lot of action, but it falls flat, and at times the fil is very cheesy. But for what it is, Passenger 57 ... read moremanages to be a decent time waster, if you're in the mood for some silly action. If you're not, then this isn't the film for you. This is really the film that certified Wesley Snipes as an action star. The cast here, are decent, nothing really great, or good for that matter. The film moves along quickly, and doesn't slow down. The film passes by in the blink of an eye and manages to be entertaining enough to appeal to fans of silly action films. Thats what Passenger 57 a silly action film that is quite preposterous. The plot is nothing really original, and we've seen this in the Die Hard films. Only Die Hard is much better and is one of the greatest action films ever made. For what it is, Passenger 57 is a thrill ride and it is fun, but it never really feels like it's going to take off. The best way to summarize the film is Die Hard on a plane. The film is predictable, and some things that the hero does is unrealistic, I mean how could you take on a a squad of armed men by yourself on a plane? oh well, I guess Wesley Snipes did it well. Passenger 57 is a decent action film, quite average. Never good or extremely thrilling. This lies between the good and the bad. There's also a feeling that this film could have been much better than it actually was.

As Im reviewing this, I've gotten into a 90's action phase, reviewing all the classic action flicks back in the day.

Obviously these guys aren't Oscar winners, but these movies did set a standard of action for the decade, and some of the biggest action stars made their mark, and... read more the stories were unique and the bad guys were the best ever on the screen.

One of the early classics is Passenger 57, which took plan hijacking and terrorism to a new level in the 90's, and made Wesley Snipes a household name and gave him a chance to display his impressive martial arts. Supported by Tom Sizemore, a young Liz Hurley and Bruce Payne as one of the best bad guys in the movies, Snipes goes up against a terrorist and master hijacker, who is also insane.

Of course, the story element isn't the best, but solid enough to include a background trauma for Snipe's character, he isn't an invulnerable hero, but a man dealing with a painful loss who just got back into the business, but he happens to be the best at what he does.

Though not much for background and production work, the music, done by one of my favorite musicians, Stanley Clarke, had a good dark beat and the intro roll was akin to a James Bond opening credits, without the naked women of course. XD But the Xray effect and synthesized score also set a new tone and sound for the 90's.

I love this movie because I think this is a great, basic action film, and mostly set the trend for others to come, as far as martial arts, gunfights and planes. Snipes is a good actor, no doubt about that, he played the part perfectly, mixing a brooding, hard edged character who can throw a razor one liner at the bad guys when needed, or preferably, a kick to the face.

Probably one of the best action movies around, which is unique in its own right.

    Pretty lazy and unimaginative.

A former security expert, John Cutter (Wesley Snipes), unwillingly gets aboard a plane that will soon be hijacked by one of the most dangerous terrorists around, Rane (Bruce Payne). Rane and his colleagues will do what it takes to keep Rane out of trouble and to kill as many inno... read morecent people as they please. However, even though he didn't know what he was getting into, Cutter would want to be the one in this situation because if anyone can stop Rane and minimize the fatalities, it's John Cutter.
I've seen just about all of Wesley Snipes's movies and I like almost all of them. But I can say without a doubt, that of the ones I've seen, "Passenger 57" is definitely my favorite. Action movies are my favorites, and great fighting sequences just make them better. As with most Wesley Snipes movies, you will see a lot of fighting in this one. In my opinion, "Passenger 57" features one of Snipes's best acting jobs, his best and most exciting fighting, and his best overall movie. Everybody else in the movie, especially Bruce Payne as the main terrorist, also do a good job of acting to make this movie seem real.

If you like action movies, don't let "Passenger 57" fly away without you at least giving it a try! NOTE: That was my Amazon review from the year 2001.

Slam-bang action film is an airbourne variation on Die Hard. Featuring a strong lead performance by Wesley Snipes, this little gem is so exciting, funny, suspenseful, and packed with great bits that you don't dare take your eyes off the screen for a second.
