Kirby Dick, the Academy Award-nominated director of This Film Is Not Yet Rated, exposes the hypocrisy of closeted politicians who actively campaign against the very community they secretly belong to. ... read more read more...Some of the most influential policy-makers in the United States are gay, but you wouldn't know it to look at their voting records -- despite being members of the LGBT community, many closeted politicians actually vote against the proposals designed to give that community equal rights. In speaking with such members of the gay community as U.S. representatives Tammy Baldwin and Barney Frank, as well as radio personality Michelangelo Signorile, activist Larry Kramer, and former N.J. governor Jim McGreevey, Dick is able to explore the complexities of leading a double lifestyle, as well as highlight the double standards of a media that has become obsessed with covering the sex lives of gay public figures. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Rides a weird line between being revenge flick fun and totally inappropriate. Ultimately it's hard not to side with the filmmakers, who don't think you should get to privately embrace the culture and people who you publicly decry and campaign against.

Provocative and compelling, this is an interesting documentary that boldly exposes the sheer hypocrisy of closeted gay American politicians who actively campaign against gay rights.

I agree with the documentary "Outrage" that we all need to live our lives as openly as possible, especially those we love, whether we are ordinary citizens, in the armed forces or politicians. However, I do not agree with the film that there is any conspiracy on behalf of closet... read moreed politicians. For example, when Ken Mehlman's name was removed from a rebroadcast of Larry King, it was probably for the simple reason that somebody was afraid of being sued.

The focus of "Outrage" is on Michael Rogers, an activist who writes for the website www.blogactive.com, specializing in outing closeted politicians who may be voting against gay rights to cover their own tracks. He researches, gets proof and facts, instead of exploiting innuendo and rumor in the bad old days of the McCarthy Era. The documentary does not make a very compelling case, however, as many of these politicians are conservative Republicans who are probably simply pandering to their voter bases. Can you tell me that Larry Craig would vote any differently than any other Idaho Republican? The one good case that the film makes is in the instance of Florida Governor Charlie Crist who has amassed a lengthy anti-gay record in a moderate state.

In the case of former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, if he is gay, it would have been huge if he had been out of the closet at the time(1977-1989) but it should also be remembered that he was generally more conservative as mayor than congressman, as he had to appeal to a more diverse electorate than just his previous liberal base. While he has been very private about his personal life, he has also been very proudly Jewish(using a quote from Daniel Pearl on his tombstone) which is hypocritical because you do not get to pick and choose about this kind of thing. Regardless, some of the voices against him just seem to be reliving old grudges. In the end, "Outrage" errs by saying activism is born solely from anger. Compassion is just as necessary.

Not as bold or as angry as you want it to be, but this necessary portrait of where we are now is more than good enough. Naming names and letting people talk, this should be seen, and Kirby Dick (no kidding, that's the director) is a terrific filmmaker (THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED... read more, if you haven't seen it, please do - right now) and he obviously feels passionately about this. I could just have used a bit more rate in my outrage.

This Kirby Dick documentary was passionate and strong but it made statements that it could not backup. Such as the media covering up gay affairs and hardly talking about them. That's highly unbelievable and the film showed contrary if anything. I don't believe in the method of ou... read moreting, which is purposely trying to drag famous men out of the closet, this is actually conducted primarily by gays. I just ended up feeling more and more pity for the people that were outed the farther this movie went. The in compassionate list of politicians just kept going, and the Film makers didn't stay away from the rest of the family. These aren't criminals they're trying to destroy, just politicians they disagree with. It got so disgusting I turned off the film with twenty minutes left, this was also due to the horrendous film editing. But the stories will stick, and I'll remember it for awhile.

Its a bit scatterbrained in its approach, but its anger is understandable and I relate to it completely. The hypocrisy of these men who live one life and preach another is disgusting. They should be outed, I don't care what it does to their lives or careers . . . they cannot live... read more and act this way any longer.

Really interesting documentary. It's really sad that closeted gay politicians are the gay communities biggest foe and roadblock in making real progress toward truly achieving civil rights for all.
  • January 27, 2010
Pretty amazing and astounding. Kirby Dick is a great documentarian in the making. Outrage is not hating but just questioning why most closeted politicians for years have made an effort to keep homosexuals from having the rights they deserve.
  • June 4, 2012
Although I'm unconvinced of an intentional nationwide media conspiracy to keep gay politicians in the closet, this film certainly does an excellent job of exposing these stories of hypocrisy and explaining the psychological reasons for such violent attacks against a group one fea... read morers to be associated with.

Watched online. Very good documentary, the content is disgusting though hardly surprising. Worth watching for anyone interested in politics and gay rights.
