Tumak (John Richardson) of the Rock People is exiled from his tribe after a fight with his father, and after days of endless wandering is in sad shape before he's taken in by the more peaceable Shell People. He attracts the attention of well-proportioned cave woman Loana (Raquel Welch), but once again finds himself a man without a country after his violent nature alienates the Shell People. Along with Raquel (whose character is remarkably well-groomed given the time period), this movie's greatest selling point are the special effects; legendary stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen created a dazzling collection of prehistoric creatures for this film that still look impressive, even in the more sophisticated era of computer generated imaging technology. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

*One of my top 20 films

I think we all know about the famous poster with Raquel Welch and that look became more famous then the film itself. I think one million years B.C. is a very underrated and over looked film that deserves more then what's its got because its epic. And it... read mores holding a 50%. Like when dinosaurs ruled the earth, this movie is fantastically done and one of the best dinosaur or Stone Age film ever.

Tumak, a member of the Rock Tribe, is expelled from their cave after running afoul of their leader Akhoba, who also happens to be his father. After several days of wandering, he meets stumbles upon several female members of the Shell Tribe, a group that lives on the coast. Loana, the daughter of the chief, sees that he is in terrible shape from his ordeal and nurses him back to health. This causes her betrothed to become jealous and eventually the two of them get into a major fight and Tumak is expelled as a result. However, Loana decides to join him and follows him back to the caves of his people. While there Loana teaches the Rock people civility and this causes Tumak to become the new leader (Akhoba was severely injured while Tumak was away). This doesn't sit well with Tumak's brother Sakana who begins to plot to have Tumak overthrown.

This movie is the first part in the cave girls trilogy next is When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth and Creatures the World Forgot. The best one is this but I thought the last was really weak and just not as good. This is also a remake of the original and I think ever die hard fan of these films will know the original had a lot of stock dino footage that went into other films of its time.

100% for story: Only because it's epic to look at. I think the ending is mad.

90% for acting: They don't say really anything thought the film because there Cave people but.

100% for special effects: I think there amazing for its time and even today they still beat crappy looking CGI. I think any stoner would love it.

100% for characters: I think there awesome and Raquel Welch character is the best.

100% for everything else: I liked the settings, Places, dinosaurs, Environment, Really all that stuff.

I think once or if you came across it you should watch it, just for the sake of looking at it.

    Keiko's score 95-100

Christ, this is boring! Unfortunately for us, it was such a success upon first release that Hammer 'treated' us to two more pictures in the same vein, "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth", which I've not yet been unlucky enough to catch, and "Creatures the World Forgot", which is eve... read moren worse than this! "One Million Years B.C." is virtually plotless; Raquel and her boyfriend just seem to drift backwards and forwards from his tribe to hers (and back again), fending off the occasional dinosaur when our attention threatens to flag. The effects work isn't too shabby but it hasn't aged well.

Utterly ridiculous but entertaining if you're in the mood and Raquel IS breathtaking.

Raquel Welch in an animal skin bikini gets menaced by anachronistic stop motion monsters. Absolute rubbish. But RAQUEL WELCH IN AN ANIMAL SKIN BIKINI!! (As you can imagine, only one section of the demographic population is catered for here...)

Good remake of 1939 prehistoric adventure with sexy Raquel Welch with her fur-bikini that makes her look hot.
  • January 5, 2011
there were some attractive women living a million years ago, weren't there? the one positive thing I can legitimately say about this movie (aside from Raquel Welch) is for a film with no intelligible dialogue whatsoever, the actors do a pretty decent job telling a story through ... read morefacial expressions and physical movement. I always had a good idea what was happening. of course, what was happening was always either unbearably dull or saturated in horribly cheesy and dated effects--respect to Harryhausen, but seriously, ouch. this film isn't overly entertaining, and it doesn't really have any kind of discernible point, but there's still something about it I kind of like.

This is one of my dad's favorite films just because he thought Rachel Welch was hot running around in a skimpy fur costume.
  • October 21, 2007
Raquel Welch looks really hot and the claymation dinosaurs are amusing, but otherwise this movie is pretty dull with hardly any discernible dialogue. Also, the film doesn't offer much in the way of a plot. The studio was obviously counting on Raquel's assets to sell this film.

Movie-wise this isn't all that great a movie. But it did produce one of the most iconic sex poses in cinematic history with Raquel Welch in her fuzzy bikini. Second only to Marilyn Monroe's blown up skirt in terms of memorable hotness.

Ray Harryhausen dinosaurs and Raquel Welch in a fur bikini. Consider all adolescent pleasure nodes officially scratched.
