Like I've said in a previous review, all a romantic comedy needs is a tangible chemistry between the two actors and a clever script. "Notting Hill" delivers the goods.
It's lacking in many technical standpoints and can get a little too sappy at times, but the characters are so ... read more -
November 7, 2011fb1216165431Personally endeared and irresistible, Notting Hill is a perfect dream - a beloved story that begins with a coincidence that has evolved into something greater between an ordinary man and a prominent actress. Notting Hill is perhaps imperfect, but beyond reason, Notting Hill capit... read more

Wonderfully funny movie, that can be seen over and over again. Brilliantly written, with great characters, a delightful cast and perfect chemistry between the actors. It's got more memorable scenes than several dozen's worth of your average rom-coms put together. In fact, I would... read more

Can the most famous film star in the world fall for just an ordinary guy?
Saw it again! Great romantic film! Julia Roberts nail her part and Hugh Grant in his best work yet to me. Watch it with your significant other and I promise you'll end up holding hands. Two thumps up! Not... read more -

If one is going to dream why not dream big? Roberts plays a big American movie star (I can visualize that) while Grant plays the shy owner of a tiny bookshop in London (ok that's a stretch): can a somebody love a nobody and it work? Better than most romcoms and the secondary c... read more

Whilst this is replayed on tv over and over, this is one o fthe more bearable Rom Coms for me. A completely unlikely scenario, but it's light, comical and easy watching.

At last I've finally seen it, more out of curiosity than anything else. I'm not a fan of Hugh Grant, seems he can only play the upper class, bumbling English idiot in all his films, which becomes annoying. I can see why this is so well liked by some. It does have some quirky Brit... read more

"Notting Hill" is a rare romantic comedy that is actually charming, romantic, has realistic characters doing realistic things and plenty of wonderful performances. While it still ultimately succumbs to genre conventions (always a downfall with this genre, but what can you expect)... read more

Really great movie! This one's been hovering in my Instant Queue for some time...Wish I had gotten around to it sooner.
Critic Reviews
Lately, romance comedies have expanded in running time, doubtless to compensate for their shrinkage in charm, and this is no exception -- it's way too long for something far too slight. Full Review
The film's romantic core is impervious to problems. Full Review
[Notting Hill] has buckets to spare of that rarest screen commodity -- genuine, engaging charm -- plus a cast and production values that fully deliver when the chips are down. Full Review
A romantic-comedy charmer in which you genuinely care about the partners-in-romance. Full Review
The movie-star-playing-a-movie-star-who-wants-to-be-a-real-person conceit also has an odd, chilling effect on Julia Roberts, whose appeal, overwhelmingly, is based on her seeming just like the rest of... Full Review
Notting Hill is a harmless, well-intentioned romantic comedy with several solid laughs.
The movie is bright, the dialogue has wit and intelligence, and Roberts and Grant are very easy to like. Full Review
