Sometimes you need to weigh up your options. Either you go by the director (who happens to have made one of the worst and most overrated films ever with "Chicago") or you go by the actor (who has delivered consistantly memorable performances in his career with "My Left Foot", "Ga... read more

A film with fiery passion, an amazing cast of top-talent actresses and the always impressive Daniel Day-Lewis, led by the creative director of "Chicago", Rob Marshall. This is the makings of a great landmark film, however where it falls is the subject matter and the execution of ... read more

Painstakingly boring and dull. It was a chore just trying to keep my eyes open.

It's visually stunning, and has beautiful costumes and art direction, but ultimately Nine is a disjunct, hard to follow and distant film. The cast handle's the sining and dancing very well and there are some great performances though.

So when I read the first reviews of this movie I was thinking, HOW CAN EVERYONE HATE IT SO MUCH!! This movie was directed by Rob Marshall, the genius who gave us Chicago and Memoirs of a Geshia... But then I saw this film and got somewhat of an idea. While it is a beautiful, the ... read more

Can't say I was overly impressed, but then musicals are never really my thing. I have rated it as a 3, which is average. Even though I didn't like it much, couldn't say it was actually bad, just kind of a nothing story with an unlikeable lead character. Each of the women do a so... read more

Rob Marshall's "Nine" is extremely underrated. The film is expertly shot and edited. This is an extremely visual picture, where, unexpectedly, most of the story and emotion is portrayed in the mise en scene rather than the actual narrative. Symbolic musical numbers, which are ful... read more

Memo to Rob Marshall, if you're going to make a film about being Italian, maybe hire some Italians? After the Caucasian washed Japanese cast debacle that was Memoirs of a Geisha you'd think you'd have learned your lesson.
A film about not having a script needs to have a great sc... read more -

Gotta say this was not the best musical I've ever seen. The songs were uninteresting, especially the coreography (Fergie's scene is the exception). The story itself was really boring also, I felt like nothing much happened. Other than Daniel Day-Lewis being himself and Penelope... read more
Critic Reviews
Nine should have been called 4Â 1/2 because it doesn't come close to the work of the master who inspired it. Full Review
The film suffers from the simple fact that its songs aren't memorable. Full Review
It's a movie about a musical about a movie about a man's inner life -- surely we can eliminate some of the middle men. Full Review
There's a lot of high-powered star wattage in Nine, but it never generates much heat. Full Review
A half-dozen Oscar winners shine in this slick but satisfying musical. Full Review
The movie is full of risible pontifications about the nature of art but falls well short of capturing the angst of creative frustration. Full Review
Nine expires in every sluggish, graceless scene. Full Review
Only Cotillard, as Guido's long-suffering wife Luisa, is in command of her character whether she's singing, speaking or just staring darts at her philandering mate. Full Review
