An ordinary man, An extraordinary journey ... FOR LOVE.

I had to see it again! Perfect Movie! There is no words but AMAZING to describe this superb film.

During November 2007, San Francisco-based autistic Rizwan Khan, en-route to meet President George W. Bush so that he can con... read morevey that his name is Khan and he is not a terrorist, recalls his life, initially with his Bombay-based dad, Dilawar Amanaullah Khan; mom, Razia; and brother, Zakir. Dilawar works for the State Transport workshop in Borivali, and Rizwan accompanies him, learns the trade, and can repair virtually anything. After his passing, Rizwan is abused by his classmates, as well as by Zakir, who feels neglected, so she hires Wadia to teach Rizwan. Years later, Zakir decides to re-locate to U.S.A., and once there, gets married to Hasina. He sponsors Razia and Rizwan, but Razia passes away. In San Francisco, where Zakri runs 'Mehnaz Herbal Beauty Products', Rizwan is hired as a door-to-door salesman, while Hasina concludes that he has Asperger's Syndrome. While selling products, he meets with and is attracted to a Hindu Salon worker, Mandira Rathod, a single mother of Sameer, whose husband abandoned her and re-located to Australia. Both Rizwan and Mandira decide to get married much to Zakir's chagrin, who asks Rizwan to leave. The trio re-locate to Banville, open their own salon, encounter racial profiling after the 9-11 terrorist attacks, are blacklisted, shunned and suffer losses, and then Sameer gets killed. Mandira blames Rizwan for her plight and asks him to leave, while she decides to pursue Sameer's death with Detective Miguel Garcia. Rizwan sets on his journey to meet Mr. Bush - little knowing that soon he will be detained as a terrorist suspect himself and held at an unknown location.

This movie is a bit overly sentimental in a Forrest Gump kind of way--which isn't all bad if you're in the mood for a feel-good movie. And like those films, the message it sends, while rather cliche, is a worthy one. One that, sadly, we often need to be reminded of. There are sev... read moreeral unexpected twists and turns in the plot that keep it fresh, and the performances by Kajol and Shahrukh Kahn are very engaging. A few cheesey sets (poorly executed computer-generation, I'd guess) and some over-the-top, unrealistic scenes that might have been cut to trim down the 2-1/2 hour film, but all in all a really nice film. Not typical Bollywood stuff.

If Charles Dickens were alive today, you would expect him to be behind a project like My Name is Khan. I really do appreciate his novels, but you have to admit that they are all wildly sentimental, sappy, and sort of far-fetched. Well, so is My Name is Khan. It is entertaining an... read mored heartbreaking, but, I swear, by the end of that movie nothing would have surprised me. You almost have wonder if the writers had a brainstorming session to come up with every type of trial and tragedy known to man. It is by no means a bad movie, and if you tend to be weepy during films, I guarantee you will sob throughout the entire thing. Given the length that is quite an achievement. Still, it is almost just too much, too big, happy, and political, to really be taken seriously. That being said, I do like Khan's mother's view of the world. 'There are only two types of people: good people who do good deeds and bad people who do bad deeds.' If only it could truly be that simple.

Movie makers in Bollywood seems to have convinced themselves that the easiest way to pull-off a class-act is to make one on the backdrop of 9/11 and the aftermath racial crimes.
The movie's intended message, that all Asians are not terrorist, is certainly a worthy one. But what ... read moreKaran Johar ended up accomplishing is yet another addition to his list of stereotyped trash movies.
The emabarassing performance from SRK does'nt help the movie either, although he cant be blamed much, 'coz I dont think he had a clue what the heck his character was supposed to be.
The lead character appears to be a masala-mix from ForrestGump, MercuryRising, RainMan and many load of movies, that Mr.Johar probably have "RESEARCH"ed before penning the script.
And just when you thought, things cant get any worse, KaranJohar chose to make a mockery of the patriotic song,"Hum Honge Kaamyab", by stuffing it in the most bizzare situations -- as in a church service held at a Katrina-ruined Georgia, or in a scene when American President meets the half-crack hero.(Cant help wondering what Mr.Johar was thinking, when he decided to use a song of such national importance to the people of India in this particular scene. Did he really thought that a rendezvous with the US President is indeed such an achievement, on a wider contest as far as the nation and people of India are concerned...)

Someone highly recommended this as a Bollywood 'Forrest Gump' and that pretty much sums it up. Good performances by the leads, but it is far fetched and runs long. Worth a viewing though.

Amazing movie! Once again, Karan Johar directs an astonishing movie that parallels other great films within his collection. Here's a movie that brings two of Bollywood's greatest actor and actress together, again.
Rizvan (Shahrukh Khan) has Asperger's, and lives with his broth... read moreer and sister-in-law in San Francisco. Selling herbal products, he meets Mandira (Kajol) and is quickly smitten. They form a strong friendship, and the two bond and begin to fall in love. They get married, and build a home together. Until the events of 9/11, they begin to experience the cruel discourse and mistreatment. It is a horrible tragedy that breaks their happy life, and Rizvan begins his journey of meeting the president and upholding a promise that he has made to his true love.
Here's a movie that strongly speaks out for itself, and defines a great message. When we begin to define ourselves by certain terms, we tend to forget that we are also human. We are connected by that distinct integrity, and blindingly forego acceptance. Racism. Hatred. Ignorance. It all goes hand in hand when we fail to look within our own selves. Phenomenal performance by Shahrukh Khan and Kajol.
Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, and Jimmy Shergill stars. Definitely worth seeing!!

While Johar's film does offer some extra food for thought within the conventional confines of an Indian commercial entertainment, it is, above all else, a love story--and a rather moving one at that. Full Review
