What do you do when you've loved someone literally all their life? As Music From Another Room opens, five-year-old Danny is with his father, a U.S. Army doctor, when Dad is faced with an emergency. It... read more read more... seems Grace Swan (Brenda Blethyn), an old friend of the family, is in the last stages of labor and there's no time to get her to the hospital. Danny ends up helping his father deliver the infant, and moments after birth, Danny is holding the baby in his arms, convinced this is the girl he will marry someday. 20 years later, Danny (played as an adult by Jude Law), now an artist educated in England after the death of his father, is back in the States to help restore a church, and he meets Anna Swan (Gretchen Mol), the girl he helped deliver now all grown up and very beautiful. However, she's also become cold and cynical, and has a fiance to boot, so while Danny's attraction to her hasn't dimmed in two decades, it's clear winning her heart will be an uphill battle. The increasingly eccentric Swan family isn't much help either, including sweet but dizzy Grace, eggheaded father Richard (Bruce Jarchow), angry feminist Karen (Martha Plimpton), shy and blind Nina (Jennifer Tilly) and self-centered lout of a doctor Billy (Jeremy Piven). Screenwriter Charlie Peters steps up to the directors chair for this romantic comedy with a superb supporting cast. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

It's a forgettable romantic comedy aside from Jude Law's performance and character. It was worth watching just to see him charm his way into prudish Gretchen Mol's heart. If it would've stayed away from cliches then it might have been a decent movie.

Oooey and gooey. I would categorize this movie as a guilty pleasure except I actually don't feel that guilty about liking it...

    Fantastic!

I usually like Jude Law movies, but this one is pretty much the cheesiest cliche romantic comedy movies (without being necessarily comedic) I have ever seen. Horrible. Oh God... I sat through the entire movie expecting it to get better. SPOILER ALERT: it didn't.

I had no idea really what this movie was about but when I pressed play and saw Jude Law I was happy already.
Cute movie about knowing what you want and if you believe in love you'll get it.
I know what it feels like to be the one in the family that has to be responsible, even ... read moreif your brother or sister thinks it's them.
Another great flick to watch with the cat!

an okay chick flick. Tilly's subplot was better than the main story. and points off for the nauseating Savage Garden song, but offset by points earned for Jude Law's hawtness.

One of my favorite love stories ever. Definitely my favorite Jude Law role. This movie breaks and warms my heart all at the same time. it's beautiful and cute and funny and it holds a lot of good memories for me. I highly recommend it.

it really makes you think about how people act. it may be a little "sappy" but it still shows you how different we should be.
  • December 23, 2006
This is one of the stupidest movies ever made. The cast is totally wasted in this poor excuse for a romantic comedy. Nothing in this movie makes any sense .

Not a bad movie if you're channel surfing. Interesting characters and a unique opening that leads to the romance. No need for the DVD.
