A loser finds out the hard way there are worse things than spending another night at home in this horror comedy from first-time director Jeremy Saulnier. Christopher (Chris Sharp) is a nebbish who can... read more read more...'t get any respect at work, couldn't get a date if his life depended on it, and has practically no social life. Christopher figures he's going to be stuck at home on Halloween until he finds an invitation for a "murder party" on the sidewalk; expecting a costume party with fun and games, he slaps together a cardboard "suit of armor" and shows up for the festivities. The bash is being thrown by a group of bohemian artists who are rather surprised Christopher has shown up -- he's the only stranger to take the bait and arrive for their party, in which their guest-of-honor is actually going to be killed in the name of creativity (and impressing a jaded patron who finances their projects). Before long, Christopher begins to realize what's going on, and struggles to find a way out of the warehouse where the party is being held, while the artists begin to turn on one another and the blood starts to flow. Murder Party won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Humorous indie low-budget slasher comedy. Gets a little silly at times and there aren't many laugh-out-loud moments, but it's an interesting little film with OTT splashes of bloody violence during the last 25 minutes. A good one to watch around Halloween for a bit of fun.

solid indie horror flick. great production, good acting, fun gore scenes, interesting and humorous characters.

    "So Fucked Up" highlight:
the "installation" that is really real

Slow beginning but the second half is really entertaining - funny and some interesting (violent) ideas. It's impressive how good this actually is for a low budget-movie. The ending is great too.

After all the hype this film's been getting I sure expected more than this. Not overly gory, funny or scary. Most of the characters...no, all of the characters are quite stupid or unlikable and it takes a while for anything of merit to happen. When this closed the Toronto Afte... read morer Dark film festival (my favourite festival) I figured if it wasn't great, it had to at least be really good, so I was shocked that it was just "okay". Oh well, if you're interested and don't get your hopes up too high, it's an enjoyable film with some good moments.

Highly overrated. This only gets points for effort, but otherwise avoid.

A man is invited to a party and it turns out they all want to kill him... Imagine the possibilities!!! Yah, right off the bat I felt this film was doing to be a steaming pile of shit and just played up for goofs and gags and relatively tame... I was SO wrong, this movie is genuin... read moreely funny and goofy at parts but seems to be more of a critique on art students and the art industry than anything. Yet at the same time I don't know if this movie knows what it wants to be, it switches gears so much it seems it's hard to keep up. Well not really, but I mean there seems to be alot happening thematically in this film... or maybe not. But it's still really great, and when gore and bloodshed are the butt of certain jokes you know you're in for something with a bit of balls.

This one is definitely over-hyped. I thought it could be a really good one, but it was lame. I don't think I laughed once.

I felt like I was watching my friends hang around and act out favorite scenes. Dark, gory, fucking funny with some why the hell did that happen moments here and there. The acid was great. People were taking head wounds like champs.

MURDER PARTY definitely isn't for everybody, if you don't believe me just check out reviews elsewhere which seem to be divided into two camps;"brilliant, hilarious,& well acted" and "the worst movie I ever saw" in almost equal numbers which is how we wound up with an over-all 3 s... read moretar rating for the flick. I'm obviously on the the positive side for this unexpected little gem of a horror comedy. It might be better served by comparisons to FIDO than to SHAUN OF THE DEAD since its more of a satire than anything else. Perhaps the fact that it is a satire of the pretentious world of modern art is what puts the nay sayers off. When you say horror comedy these days people automatically think "splat-stick" and expect EVIL DEAD or DEAD-ALIVE, but there's more to comedy than pratfalls and pies in the face as FIDO proved and MURDER PARTY underscores. I hope to see much more from these guys in the future!

A lonely guy finds an invitation to a 'murder party' and assumes it's just another Halloween party being thrown in town. He soon finds himself in the hands of a group of art students who are willing to sacrifice whoever is dumb enough to attend something called a 'murder party' ... read morefor their art.

A nice blend of satire and horror, this has some very amusing moments and is well worth a look for anyone who has ever known anyone waaay too into their own art and 'creativity'.

    Give it a rental.

After an hour of entertainingly crass buildup, pic erupts in a riot of outrageous, quite funny violence that leaves almost no one alive. Punk/metal soundtrack is in keeping with gonzo tone. Full Review
