Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper returns to his rightful place behind the camera to weave this gruesome tale concerning an abandoned small-town funeral home with a dark and deadly secret. ... read more read more...Local legend has it that the Fowler Funeral Home in Santa Loraina, CA, is plagued with death of the most unnatural kind. Rumored to have been purchased to launch a ranching business by Zeb Fowler, the land was subsequently converted into a funeral home when the cattle all began dying of a mysterious and undiagnosed ailment. When Zeb and his wife gave birth to a hideously disfigured boy named Bobby soon thereafter, the story took a strange turn as the pair attempted to shelter their son by covering his face with a burial shroud. After young Bobby disappeared at the age of eight and his parents were found brutally murdered a decade later, rumors began to swirl around the community that Bobby may still be alive. Now single mother Leslie Doyle (Denise Crosby) has moved into the long-abandoned and hideously decrepit home with aspirations of restoring it and taking on the role of town mortician for the town of Santa Loraina, and, along with her children, Jonathon (Dan Byrd) and Jamie (Stephanie Patton), she is about to discover that some legends never die. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Mortuary is one of the worst films by Tobe Hooper, hell it's surprising that he even directed this film. Mortuary has the tv movie cheap feel to it, and the acting and everything else sucks about this film. This is a film that had very good potential, instead the overall film lac... read moreks effective direction or style and cannot be salvaged from mediocrity. After this disaster, Tobe Hooper should call it quits.

More sad than scary, and left too much unexplained.

    Directed by: Tobe Hooper.

Using a atrocious, cliched script, the film at 94 minutes, drags in too many places and uses cheap, cliched jump sequences for 'genuine scares' as Hollywood horror does nowadays to get the little girls screaming, mediocre acting (mainly from the little girl, who showed more talent then the rest of the actors), no real atmosphere and I hate to say it...bad direction.

I just hope one day Tobe uses his head and gets back into gear, because its more talent gone to waste because of Hollywood.

I enjoyed this film alot. Much different than what Hooper would usually do. Interesting story with some frightening scenes.

Kinda boring low budget cheese from the director of TCM and Poltergeist. Nice to see the mom from Pet Cemetary and the kid from The Hills Have Eyes remake in it but still weak

Starts on the right foot with a mother & 2 children arriving at dilapidated house that no-one in her right mind would allow her children inside, and greeted by the local coroner with a nonstop crazy laugh. She's an aspiring mortician you see, and with a deadly highway nearby she... read more's promised plenty of business.

Dan Byrd has a future as an actor, playing the slightly rebellious yet understanding son. There are some nice comedic touches (I particularly like Denise Crosby's landscaping efforts), but in the end the movie isn't campy enough or scary enough to really deliver. Surprised to discover this was directed by Tobe "Chainsaw Massacre" Hooper during the end credits.

One of those "infected" movies. Pretty original though. Casting was pretty excellent in my opinion. Major bonus points for the ending.

I expected this to be good as it is by the great Tobe Hooper, but it wasn't one of his best. I still liked it. It was scary, had pretty good acting, and gross effects. The only bad things about this movie are a little of the acting and the horrible ending. Overall,it's a good movie ... read moreto watch around Halloween but nothing EXTREMELY special. Great horror.

Predictable, but not a complete waste of time. It has some awesome gross out scenes, but not enough to make it great.

Traz um susto ou outro, mas, de modo geral, a avalanche de clichês, a direção burocrática de Hooper, as péssimas atuações e os ridículos efeitos visuais acabam tornando-se excessivamente irritantes. Full Review
