Sam: What kind of bird are you?
Just to get it out of the way, I am a big fan of writer/director Wes Anderson's work (Rushmore, The Royal Tenembaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, etc.) and was already inclined to enjoy his latest film. The fact that I really enjoyed Moonrise Kingdom doe... read more

Wes Anderson was probably bored with his toys when he decided to make this movie, out of a lack of anything better to do. He clearly has nothing to say here and throws everything he can think of (including a great cast) in this pointless, unfunny mess that leads nowhere.

A Wes Anderson movie is a lot like Katy Perry, great to look at but painful to listen to. In this regard, "Moonrise Kingdom" is the ultimate Wes Anderson movie. Like the home of a spinster, it's meticulously maintained yet lacks human warmth. There are references to movies as dis... read more

It makes you nostalgic for the pangs of young love. Full Review
What makes it an Anderson movie are the things he adds which mark all his films - the pop-cultural obsessions and excruciatingly detailed set decorations, overarching thematic concerns and little styl... Full Review
I liked this one because of its young performers, the evocative island setting (filmed in Rhode Island), Alexandre Desplat's lovely score and Robert Yeoman's slightly grainy cinematography. Full Review
The director's best film since 1998's Rushmore, it has none of the self-conscious smugness of The Life Aquatic or the empty eccentricity of The Royal Tenenbaums. Full Review
A gorgeously shot, ingeniously crafted, über-Andersonian bonbon that, even in its most irritatingly whimsical moments, remains an effective deliverer of cinematic pleasure. Full Review
"Moonrise Kingdom" breezes along with a beautifully coordinated admixture of droll humor, deadpan and slapstick. Full Review
In this tale about growing up and falling in love, it seems Anderson has found his true heart. Full Review
The hilarious and heartfelt Moonrise Kingdom is a consistent pleasure. By evoking the joys and terrors of childhood, it reminds us how to be alive. Full Review
