Monsters, Inc.

John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Mary Gibbs, Steve Buscemi, James Coburn

After exploring the worlds of toys and bugs in the two Toy Story films and A Bug's Life, the award-winning computer animation company Pixar delves into the realm of monsters with its fourth feature. "Sully" Sullivan (John Goodman) and his one-eyed assistant Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) are employed by Monsters, Inc., a scream processing factory. It seems that the denizens of their realm thrive on the screams of kids spooked by monsters lurking under their beds and in their closets. It's the job of Sully, Mike, and their co-workers, including sarcastic Randall Boggs (Steve Buscemi), crab-like CEO Henry J. Waternoose (James Coburn), and lovely snake-headed receptionist Celia (Jennifer Tilly) to keep the frights flowing. When Sully and Mike are followed back into the monster world by a very unafraid little human girl named Boo (Mary Gibbs), they are exiled to her universe, where they discover that such a modern-day mythological specimen as the Abominable Snowman is a fellow refugee. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Monsters, Inc. is an utterly charming animated film by Pixar with their signature humanism and light touch. It's gorgeously animated with a wonderful display of colors throughout, something critics have criticized a little bit in their other films like 'Wall-E". The voice work is... read more also top notch, with every actor sinking their teeth into the roles and getting lost in the story. Sometimes big name actors distract from the film, but Billy Crystal and John Goodman are fantastic and have excellent rapport. The story is a little simplistic, but the execution is once again what shines. There are so many memorable characters and lines and the world they have created for these monsters is very creative. This is just another example of the kind of films that puts Pixar ahead of everyone else in the genre. It's not quite on the level of some of their more sophisticated work, but Monsters, Inc. is more than worthy of the Pixar name. It's great entertainment for kids and adults.

There are many reasons that "Monsters, Inc." is so great, but the two main ones are easy to identify: Billy Crystal and John Goodman. These two, and their respective characters Mike and Sully, are classic match made in heaven. The way the story diverts monster cliches (by making ... read morethe child the perceived monster) is fresh, and never once does the film settle for anything less than brilliant (which is most apparent in the chase atop the moving doors.)

you don't get anymore classier than Monsters Inc. and has become Pixar's best creations, but we are used to great productions coming from the minds of Pixar.

Ahh how I long for the days of Monster Inc. when Pixar was new and movies weren't in 3D. An absolute classic that never gets old I would have to say that Crystal and Goodman as Sully and Mike are two of my favourite comedic performances of all time, whether animated or not. Also,... read more I like Monsters Inc. because of the tender undertones of Sully and Boo's relationship that makes me feel as warm and fuzzy on the inside as Sully is on the outside.

The first film I ever saw. I never saw Toy Story until much later in life. This film is closer to my heart. Its colours are as rich and bright as Toy Story. I must disagree with everyone who thinks this film lacks sophistication because it is highly sophisticated and Pixar throws... read more something else to Monsters Inc that was never really given to Toy Story, imagination. Furthermore, I think this film provides action, quality humour and even better visuals for Monsters Inc to be called Pixar's best.
