The movie has almost no plot complications or suspenseful moments, yet I love it SO MUCH! It's a floating, pattering, whirling confection of a movie, and Amy Adams fits snugly inside Delysia Lafosse. I think she can have a tendency to be pigeonholed into the ingenue role, but she... read more

Lee Pace and Amy Adams give their usually cute performances while Frances McDormand proves yet again that she can pull any film by its coat tails.

I enjoyed this movie. Frances McDormand plays a down-on-her-luck governess who finds work as the social secretary for a ditsy actress. They are just what each other needs.

There is only one reason to see this, ah, happy little movie: the growth of the relationship between Frances McDormand and Ciarán Hinds. That part of the movie is beautifully done. The rest of it, however, is a bit of a wash. For McDormand and Hinds, this is a wonderful love ... read more

This was a alright movie. Francis McDormand and Amy Adams play two very different characters who are actually similar in certain ways. And this allows them to help each other make very important changes in their lives over the course of a very frentic day. Adams flies around the ... read more

Amazing romantic-comedy with Frances McDormand seems like a woman who enjoys flaunting her age in the face of wrinkle-free Hollywood. While she didn't need to lay off the Botox needle to "bravely" play a plain middle-aged governess in 1939 London, initially it seems like an odd r... read more

Very good movie. Frances McDormand shines as Miss Pettigrew, and Amy Adams does as well as the troublesome Delysia Lafosse. Very witty, funny, entertaining, and adorable movie.

At least Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day has the good grace to go wrong quickly; you don't have to sit there squirming with doubt. Full Review
Based on the 1938 novel by Winifred Watson, Miss Pettigrew is a veritable treat. Wisely cast, this handsome production is a delightful farcical fairy tale, bolstered by moments of depth and emotion. Full Review
You can't criticize a soufflé for not being a side of beef. Full Review
Miss Pettigrew is one of those rare cases where a filmmaker's good intentions, and the enthusiasm of his actors, are enough to fill in the cracks. Full Review
This nostalgic Cinderella story starring Hollywood's scandalously underutilized treasure is a jubilee for McDormand and jolly good fun for most everyone else. Full Review
I adore Frances McDor mand, but she's seri ously miscast -- in a title role Emma Thompson could play in her sleep -- in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, an uneasy blend of screwball comedy and pathos s... Full Review
In adapting Winifred Watson's 1938 novel, director Bharat Nalluri strains frantically to evoke the champagne fizz of classic screwball comedies. Full Review
A snappy adaptation of a nearly forgotten 1938 British novel. Madcap chorines, long-suffering domestics, a giddy playboy foolishly sinking Daddy's money into a show -- it's all here, along with a happ... Full Review
It's hard not to like a movie in which Frances McDormand spends half her screen time staring longingly at leftover scraps of bread and half-eaten apples, as she does in the charmingly featherweight Mi... Full Review
