Aja's menacing study in the origins of evil. It's been just about a year since mercurial police detective Ben Carson (Sutherland) was suspended from the NYPD for the fatal shooting of an undercover officer, and ever since that fateful day he's been locked in a self-destructive spiral of anger and alcoholism. Increasingly isolated from his wife and kids, Ben spends most nights crashed-out at his sister Angela's (Amy Smart) apartment in Queens. But Ben hasn't given up hope just yet, and in order to get his life back together and prove that he's still capable of supporting his family he takes a job as the night watchman at the Mayflower department store. The Mayflower used to be a lavish symbol of inner-city prosperity, that is, until a raging inferno gutted the building while claiming numerous lives in the process. These days, the Mayflower is a scorched reminder of human misery, the ornate mirrors therein reflecting a suffering so profound that it begins to wear on Ben's already-fragile psyche. Not only that, but whatever force dwells behind the shimmering glass seems to have gained the power to alter reality as well. After Ben gazes into the mirrors and sees a vision of himself being relentlessly tortured, he is horrified to experience violent convulsions, spontaneous bleeding, and frightening asphyxiation. And while his sister is always willing to lend a sympathetic ear, she chalks the anomalies up to an unusually potent mix of stress and anxiety. Unfortunately for Ben, his estranged wife, Amy (Paula Patton), isn't nearly as forgiving. A prosaic NYPD medical examiner who has seen her fair share of tragedy, Amy fears that Ben's erratic behavior could be placing their children in danger. Later, as Ben begins to draw connections between his increasingly gruesome visions and a former Mayflower security guard who vanished without a trace, he begins to suspect that an unimaginable evil is using the mirrors as a gateway into the real world, and that his family is in mortal danger from forces beyond their realm of understanding. Perhaps if he Ben can manage to convince Amy that their children's lives are at risk, he can summon the courage to face the greatest evil he has ever known. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Kiefer Sutherland just can't get out of the 24HR Role, what ever movie you see him in you see his role as the maniac with a gun who has a badge, That being said in this movie his acting was as bad as ever but the story line of this movie was very creepy, not many movies that deal... read more with horror bother me but this one did, I haven't looked at my reflection since. About a hotel in NYC that burned and is now guarded by private security, the mirrors left over from an hospital are possessed, spine chilling worth 4 stars for story line.

It was fairly a decent movie but the ending made absolutely no sense at all.

Scary but fairly original and really boring, was switching off now and again. It's ok!

A fairly original storyline (albeit a remake), although there are plenty of cliche moments, the film iself is slightly drawn out, but some of the creepy bits do play on your mind. A watchable film, but lacked a little scare factor that could so easily have been added, enjoyed the... read more less predictable type of ending.

Considering the large amount of lame or stupid horror films in recent years, this is actually one of the better ones. The idea of a haunted house may not be entirely new, but the fact that every mirroring surface turns into a threat has potential and is being used accordingly, cr... read moreeating a great atmosphere of paranoia and threat. The film has its strongest moments when Sutherland is channeling Jack Bauer, working on solving the riddle of cursed mirrors. The showdown is a bit too much on the conventional side. While the final twist is not entirely logic it's not as forced or stupid as often in this genre. So fans of horror should definitely enjoy this.

Another remake for director Alexandre Aja, this time of the stylish supernatural Korean thriller 'Into the Mirror'. To be fair to the director he can make a decent film and this effort is no different. It's more overblown compared to the original with some wicked gore scenes, alt... read moreerations to the plot to make it more horrific and it's more fast paced. I thought it was a very enjoyable film that gets pretty creepy at times and I thought the finale was really entertaining. Well worth watching even if you've seen the original.

It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. But I'm not really sorry about that because I was afraid it was going to feed my paranoia about mirrors when it's dark in the house, and fortunately it didn't.

The story is a little weak, the characters are a little shallow. But it is... read more a good movie to watch on a Friday or Saturday night when there nothing on TV.

Mirrors had some good gore and a fun plot, but I hated the ending.

I was always afraid of mirror in real life. I used to see some dumb scary Hindi serial on TV and they used some "blah" effect about mirror (where your reflection start haunting you) and I used to be frightened (well I was a kid and used to sleep alone...boo). This movie scared me... read more to death I tell you (and if I compare this with my childhood seen serial, it would be like comparing a mosquito with an Elephant). I didn't expected it to be that much frightening but it proved me wrong. I like scary movie. The story, atmosphere, acting, makeup, etc everything was awesome. The most scariest part was Angela Carson's (Amy Smart) death. After watching that part, I kinda felt weird when watching my own mirror (yes it's easy to scare me). I do recommend it to watch. But don't watch it alone.

Mirrors is a pretty interesting concept for a horror film. Instead of the of a haunted house, we are experiencing terror in an abandoned haunted department store that was once an asylum. A very interesting story unfolds. However this type of film has been done many times over, an... read mored is not original. Alexandre Aja, the man responsible for The Hills Have Eyes remake helms this project, and with his expertise, gives it a dark, eerie atmosphere that makes you uncomfortable, very much like Hills have eyes. Kiefer Sutherland gives a decent enough performance, but unfortunately the film relies too much on CGI effects to create it's horror, and thus Mirrors is an ordinary average horror film with barely no payoff in the end. Its a great looking film however, but the rest is average.

The director, Alexandre Aja, knows how to reflect the fear in people's heads, but he gets too ensnared in a backstory that's just gothic business as usual. Full Review

This remake of a South Korean movie ultimately provides fewer scares than the average aging baby boomer feels every time they look into a reflective surface.
