Defintely a family film that is for the wee wee ones as opposed to the adults in the room, the film seems preoccupied with the costumes being worn by the ensemble and a weird awww shucks earnestness as opposed to good storytelling which seems to be at odds for the superficial att... read moreitude it seems to want to sell (the evil queen overtaxing the populace to throw lavish parties and look glamourous). The fact it is all shot on set as opposed to location doesn`t help the fake looking aspect of the design although there are a few gorgeous moments to be had. And hate to say it as much of a fan I used to be of Julia Roberts but the competing wicked stepmother Charlize from the Huntsmen makes a more memorable screen presence for the war of the proverbial roses. Not that I was expected more but feels like an unnecessary duplicate.

Love Tarsam Singh's signature visuals and use of color but he seemed to peak with the wonderful "The Fall". Mirror Mirror is a live action film trying too hard to be a cartoon. The result just did not work. And the Bollywood ending...seriously?...what were you smoking?

A funny and silly movie, not to be taken seriously at all.

    Funny, cute, entertaining.

The only two things I loved in this movie is Julia Roberts' performance & how she added her own touch to the story with a lil sarcasm and the sword fight scene was pretty engaging. Other than it was kinda boring.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I didn't hate this movie as much as I thought I would. Granted, it's still not good. It can be a little too mean-spirited to be funny, and can be silly in places where it's not meant to be silly. But it did have a unique take on the "Snow Whit... read moree" story. The costuming is a bit too over the top, and it probably could have done with a rewrite. But it wasn't as much of an abomination as I expected.

Mirror Mirror is an aesthetically fantastical yet ultimately tedious film that may occasionally please the tots in the audience. However, it will leave adults far less enchanted. It's fun on some levels but ultimately i just wanted it to be over. I say SKIP IT!!!

Julia Roberts seems to be having a lot of fun in this amusing satire that plays with fairy tale clichés. Full of witty dialogue and with a solid script, this feminist vision of the classic story is much more inspired than Snow White and the Huntsman, even if not remarkable.

It wasn't AS BAD as I expected, but wasn't great in any way. Loved the dwarves, though. I'm split on Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen. Meh.

This was fun to see as a family. Beautiful costumes -- no surprise it is up for best costumes Oscar.

Snow White's story gets a pseudo-feminist re-boot, but much of the story remains intact.
I was ready to give this film three stars, a stretch for me because films like this are not my cup of tea, but the closing credits were scored by an auto-tuned, dance-club number that is, in ... read morethe words of Super Reviewer Alice Shen, "half-Bollywood." I didn't even watch the full number. It was revolting.
I watched the film for its costume design, the category for which it's nominated, and the costumes and production design are indeed nomination-worthy. Lush, colorful schemes abound, and the film is a visual delight.
We all know the story. I have always contended that Snow White is coded racism and sexism; after all, the "fairest of the land" can be a synonym for "whitest," and Snow White is confined to domestic duties when she joins the dwarves. But when Snow eschews the Prince's help, she essentially deploys a feminist message, saying that she doesn't need a man to rescue her. I wish they had stuck with this, but the plot eventually proves that she does need rescuing. The film was so close to something unique.
All the performances are fine. Nathan Lane is Nathan Lane, and Julia Roberts is charmingly caddy. Lily Collins was there too.
Overall, this film had promise once upon a time.
