    It is made out to be as great as "The Neverending Story" but is very low budget. The set pieces and creature designs aren't anything grand. It has a song-singing Gnome, a giant furry wookiee creature and children which turn into butterflies. It has a European flavor to it all. L... read moreittle kids will be amused. I got some chuckles for how cheap it was. Superchannel used to air this repeatedly.

    An orphaned boy (played by Christian Bale) lives with his resentful aunt and he is picked on by the neighborhood boys. He is given a magic apple by a local shopkeep and is transported to a mystical world where he finds his dad is king. Things are all good until he learns of a kni... read moreght (Evil Sender) who kidnaps kids to turn them to slaves. So he has to battle the bad man. Though based on an older novel, this appears to have been made to capitalize on the success of Neverending Story, (though its not on par). Interestingly, it was partly produced and filmed in the USSR. Pretty good locations and not terrible effects.

    I shouldn't even be rating this, because it's been over a decade + since I've seen it...but certain foggy scenes still stick with me...
