Number 5 of the Compilation Era
Animation is top notch.
The shorts are actually all great and while not the most memorable will still stay longer then most of the shorts of the era.

Melody Time is the last Fantasia-esc musical inspired animated short packaged film from Disney's odd period. The Johnny Appleseed short is solid, all the others range from pretty good to mediocre. In a nutshell I'd call it the weakest of all the packaged animated films from the... read more

Some segments are good, some segments aren't so good, but all in all, Melody Time is a worthy addition to the Disney timeline, as it still has some wonderful animation and lovely music to back it up.

Pretty much just a rehash of Make Mine Music, you kind of feel that if they had just taken the good parts of both this and Make Mine Music, and edited them together, and threw the bad parts out, you'd have one decent package film, instead of two sub par package films.

Johnny Appleseed and Pecos Bill shorts are probably the highlights here. Another solid collection of shorts that are entertaining, but probably not very memorable as a whole.

One of Disney's forgotten gems. Incredible color styling from Mary Blair and others, great 1940s Pop, and Ethel Smith at the Hammond organ! What's not to like???

Certainly enjoyable at moments and the color is always wonderful to watch, but nowhere near does it have the presence of a Fantasia or Make Mine Music.

Not as good as Fantasia or Make Mine Music, but it is still enjoyable to watch. The color schemes are bright and cheerful and the animation matches the music styles nicely. Another well done Walt Disney music/animation complilation.

Like healthy, imaginative children, those Disney boys are full of strange caprice. One minute they are doing something charming; the next minute they are slopping in the jam. Full Review
This last musical compilation film from the Disney studios was also one of the best, and Disney's animators display their entire creative range. Full Review
A film much more entertaining than you'd expect, even if only two of its seven sequences individually reach classic status. Full Review
Very colorful, very musical Disney animation near-classic.
A charming, imaginative anthology of cartoon shorts set to music by the likes of such '40s favorites as Roy Rogers and The Andrews Sisters. Full Review
