Starts out as a pretty good action thriller, but ends up being silly & predictable.

Meh ... it ends up being better than the title sounds -- Sam Worthington (Avatar, Clash of the Titans) plays a jumper on a NYC highrise and Elizabeth Banks (W, The Hunger Games) is the negotiator he requests by name -- the film isn't really worthy of much of a recommendation. On... read moree might want to see how they turn this title into a full-length film (backstory and side-story) but it ends up being rather forgettable. Worthington was a cop convicted of stealing a $40 million dollar diamond from a real estate tycoon (a ruthless, sleazy Ed Harris - The Hours, Pollack) and through a highly unlikely-but-oh-so-convenient escape from his father's funeral, he returns to NYC to prove his innocence. Jamie Bell (King Kong, Billy Elliott) plays his angry younger brother and Edward Burns (The Brothers McMullin) and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) are fellow cops. The side-story does help; but it is pieced together by several elements of other heist films and so nothing new is offered here. It is kind of like Phoone Booth ... small plot stretched-out ... and if feels rather gimmicky. It was a watchable flick, I will say that; but we've all seen better before.

It could be a decent plot for a 40-minute episode of a crime series, but honestly it's too straight and flat for a 103-minute thriller: classic "fast-forward button every 10 minutes to not fall asleep" movie.

I had seen one preview for this film, and it didn't appeal to me at all. Even the title seemed completely unimaginative, like it was a shortened elevator pitch. However, I had a chance to see it as a sneak preview, and I thought, "Well, you can't go terribly wrong with Jamie Bell... read more, Anthony Mackie, and Ed Harris, and I haven't seen Ed Burns in anything for awhile. Besides, it's free. What the heck?"

Well, the movie was, on occasion, kind of ridiculous, and it had a typically predictable ending. Also, Sam Worthington couldn't maintain his American accent; whenever he started yelling, he sounded very Australian. Still, the movie has more strengths than weaknesses, and I even had a couple of gasps and then relieved relaxes. Certainly not the best action movie I've seen, but far from the worst either. It's a decent popcorn flick, a good option if you want a movie that isn't completely mindless but doesn't make your brain hurt either.

The first half is a bit boring, but it makes up for it later.
It's not that well written but it's enjoyable.
If you like thrillers watch it, but don't expect much from it.

A heist movie in which the 'evidence' of innocence at the end of the movie makes no sense whatsoever, especially given that a heist did occur.

A silly heist movie with an incompetent premise to boot: A Man on a Ledge proves his innocence by having his brother and his girlfriend (the most annoying heist team ever) steal back a diamond which he was framed for stealing by a ruthless business man played by Ed Harris. He's o... read moren the ledge to distract people since the heist is literally taking place across the street. How convenient. The events that transpire are dull, not thrilling. This would've worked if the man on the ledge was on the ledge for something more worth wild. Not sure what that would be since the idea has a certain dead on arrival approach. You could've had it based on anything: He's on the ledge because he wants world peace or he's on the ledge if the president doesn't do something about the economy. Y'know like a statement for something important instead of a revenge/heist flick.

You can only push an innocent man so far.

Nice idea for a story, but the execution could have been better. There were quite some plot holes which made the some parts of the film unconvincing , but then again it's a movie.
I enjoyed watching it for one time and I'll leave it at that.

"You can only push an innocent man so far."

An ex-cop turned con threatens to jump to his death from a Manhattan hotel rooftop. The police then dispatches a female police psychologist personally requested to talk him down from the ledge.

Nick (Sam Worthington) is an escaped convict out on a ledge outside an hotel room in the city, with a crowd below waiting for him to jump. Lydia (Elizabeth Banks) is the negotiator trying to talk him down. But he is actually engaged in a distraction, buying time for his brother Joey (Jamie Bell) and girlfriend Angie (Genesis Rodrigues) to steal a diamond from high powered ruthless crook David Englander (Ed Harris) within a high-tech security system in a neighbouring building, this being the key to his freedom. The first thing for me to say is that this film does not merit close examination - in the cold light of day it falls apart in your hands. It has an air about of a film which was developed entirely from the title - "Man on a Ledge is a great name for a movie - now, who is he, and why is he on a ledge?". So, please, don't go into this expecting it to make vast amounts of sense: it doesn't. Conversely, if you go in with a bag of popcorn and your brain in neutral, you are likely to have a good deal of fun, because this is a good natured action thriller with good action, lots of suspense, some twists and turns, Ed Harris as a pantomime villain, and decent turns from the principals.

I can't put my finger on this film, i dont know if it is a heist film or a love story. But all in all, it's very moving. Love is giving until you there's none to give. In this case, even your life.
