Nick (Sam Worthington) is an escaped convict out on a ledge outside an hotel room in the city, with a crowd below waiting for him to jump. Lydia (Elizabeth Banks) is the negotiator trying to talk him down. But he is actually engaged in a distraction, buying time for his brother Joey (Jamie Bell) and girlfriend Angie (Genesis Rodrigues) to steal a diamond from high powered ruthless crook David Englander (Ed Harris) within a high-tech security system in a neighbouring building, this being the key to his freedom. The first thing for me to say is that this film does not merit close examination - in the cold light of day it falls apart in your hands. It has an air about of a film which was developed entirely from the title - "Man on a Ledge is a great name for a movie - now, who is he, and why is he on a ledge?". So, please, don't go into this expecting it to make vast amounts of sense: it doesn't. Conversely, if you go in with a bag of popcorn and your brain in neutral, you are likely to have a good deal of fun, because this is a good natured action thriller with good action, lots of suspense, some twists and turns, Ed Harris as a pantomime villain, and decent turns from the principals.

An instant classic. An awesome, pulse-pounding, hold on to your seat and full-throttle edge of your seat thriller that dosent let up for a minute. It`s wickedly original and furiously entertaining. A breathtaking and mind-blowing roller-coaster ride. An adrenilane-charged thriller that keeps our mind and your heart racing with suspense, surprising humor and non-stop action. This movie delivers the goods, i loved it. A sharply written, expertly crafted and brilliantly performanend film. An explosive and spectacular film. It`s hands down the most exciting new thriller of the new year. This film just rocks and rocks all the way to the end. An amazing all-star cast. Sam Worthinton has never been better, he gives another strong and outstanding performance. I just love watching him on the screen. Elizabeth Banks is terrific.

I love heist movies. Whether is comedies like the "Oceans" movies, or serious like "Inside Man". People stealing stuff just usually makes for exciting movies. "Man on a Ledge" however is a very mediocre heist movie at best. Basically, it's about a man on a ledge( :-) ). A fu... read moregitive(Sam Worthington) goes out on a ledge of a building in New York in an attempt to prove his innocence of a crime he was found guilty for. I'd say more, but it would kind of give away key plot points. But really, after the first half hour, you'll either have it figured out and just go with it, or you'll think it's pretty bad. Worthington is not that good of an actor. He does good in some of his action movies, but realistically, he is very bland, and has trouble carrying the movie. Put Liam Neesan in this role, and man this could have been great. The rest of the cast is good, but just a ho-hum story and very uneven. Starts out kind of like "Phone Booth"(which I love!), and just goes down hill from there. I'd say it's ok for a watch, but keep expectations low.

There hasn't been a more obvious, lame, uninteresting lackluster with a terribly stretched premise recently than Man on a Ledge. Dont get me wrong a lot of good films can be pitched in one sentence but th... read moreis was just unimaginably boring. Typically uninspired performances, laughable dialogue, wooden acting and very few thrills render this film as forgettable and an unimaginative dissapointment. Elizabeth Banks was the lone bright spot but it's just rubbish in nearly every way possible. There is no tension whatsoever other than a desperate Sam Worthington standing on a ledge and for a thriller I expect more than that.

'Man on a Ledge' is sometimes tense, but usually boring, and its dragged down by unconvincing performances and a lackluster script. The premise is different and intriguing, but the script has no idea where to go from there. It's a mildly enjoyable film, but it never surmounts to ... read moreanything unique or purposeful.

It's funny how this movie literally gets worse and worse as it goes along. First 3 minutes...intriguing. From there, ''Man on a Ledge'' goes way, WAY downhill.

Slightly drawn out, but an intriguing plot which mixed a couple of themes. Best role of film goes to Jamie Bell I feel, but good all round easy watching.

Good movie! Interesting and entertaining plot and some fine acting too. Recommended to all.

High-concept movies doesn't necessarily satisfy solely on the strength of their central premise. If so, the untenable 'Man on a Ledge' would be much better, but Worthington is a disengaging headliner not worthy of being the focus. His Australian accent frequently resurfaces (his ... read moredown-under pronunciation of "retrial") and he must duel with Elizabeth Banks who is tragically miscast and exhibits more chemistry with her coffee than her hyperventilating costar. The main stumbling block with Worthington's character is he is an immaculate saint without sins and his journey to blamelessness is relatively interminable. The climax is predicated on the scoundrels being lobotomized idiots for plot convenience such as Harris bypassing his high-tech security vault to pocket an important diamond that will exonerate Worthington if exposed. 'Man on a Ledge' finally decelerates to an implausible crawl with the 'Mission Impossible' close-calls of Worthington's brother and his spandex-sporting girlfriend.

"Man On A Ledge" engages it's audiences, the ones who understand that they are at the movies for a good time, with no questions asked. If you are going to say, "oh that wouldn't happen," or "that is completely ridiculous," then you should stay far away from this movie. Is it impl... read moreausible? Yes, is it stupid? Yes, Will you question it? Yes, but is it entertaining? Absolutely! There was not one moment where I was not engaged what was going on, but the poorly written dialogue and the wooden acting does take away from the suspense. An escaped convict walks out onto a ledge in order to prove that he did not steal a diamond from the richest man in the city. As he draws the attention from the entire city to him, his brother and his annoying girlfriend are on an illegal mission across the street. The plot is very straight forward, but by the time the film reaches it's conclusion, you will actually be pleasantly surprised that it was a very smart plan. Sure, I rolled my eyes, laughed a little and made fun of it, but it is one of the best guilty pleasures I've seen in a long time! "Man on a Ledge" is a lot of fun, but it needed a better writer and producer!
