This film is single-handedly responsible for about 90% of my childhood nightmares. Supposedly based on actual events that happened not far from where I grew up, Legend of Boggy Creek is a series of reenactments and staged interviews with eye witnesses. Here it is, almos... read moret 40 years later, and I STILL like watching this one late at night with all the lights off.

The Blair Witch Project of its time. Stories abound about Bigfoot, a huge furry manbeast that wanders the forests of the Ark-La-Tex. Lots of interviews (rumored to be fake) about sightings and "photographic evidence" all convinced 1970s audiences that the proceedings were complet... read moreely real. It therefore did HUGE business and was THE movie to see.

AAAAAAHHHHH My fucking eyes and ears. This was horrible. It tried to play itself as some kind of mockumentary, but a very poorly made one. There isn't a single moment of tension thanks to the terrible acting and intrusive voice-over. Some guy literally talks throughout the whole ... read morething. It will give interview type moments and then just a bit of normal narrative. It's a poor effort, but one that could be improved upon.

Probably one of the first films to truly terrify me as a kid! Everything about this movie is cool, from the atmospheric photography, the engaging narration and the kooky music. "Boggy Creek" takes "Blair Witch" and "The Last Broadcast" and wipes the floor with the both of 'em!

I... read more only wish somebody, somewhere could secure the rights to this forgotten gem and put out a DVD release.

Let's go back in the bottoms!!!!!

The Legend of Boggy Creek is a docudrama that follows the *supposedly* true story of a elusive bigfoot like beast seen in the Fouke, Ark area the whole movie includes interviews with real townfolk that have claimed to see the beast and also reenactments of what took place. This i... read mores one of those so bad its good movies that over the years has become somewhat of a cult classic to many now includeing myself since i really enjoyed this even though the acting is laughable any B or Cult movie fan has got to see this atleast once.

Documentary style tracking of big foot creature.

For the most part, this is a boring and horribly acted bottom-budget 70's drive-in movie. However, I have to give this film some serious credit for being about 25 years ahead of its time.

As far as I'm aware, this is one of the first horror films to go the documentary route. E... read moressentially its a series of dramatized events that may or may not have happened. This is so in vogue today ('The Blair Witch Project', 'Lake Mungo', 'The 4th Kind', etc) that I find it hard to believe that this movie didn't have some sort of effect on many of these modern film makers.

As far as reviewing the film based on its own merit however, it is certainly not a success. It is 'bogged' down by a great deal of dead weight and simply boring stretches. The voice over narration is simply laughable and sounds like some 'Wonderful World of Disney' garbage that instantly destroys any small amount of realism or tension it manages to build.

It is very disconnected, as it is pretty much a string of different 7 minute novellas glued together. It does feature a couple of decent moments, particularly the final 15 minutes or so which really manage to become pretty creepy. Unfortunately, these moments wear quite thin, and it ultimately wilts. Its grainy and super 8 style footage and filming actually add a creepy and unsettling vibe, much the same as classic horror films like 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre'.

While it has its positives and its ideas were clearly ahead of its time, this is a below average movie. I'm probably rating it a little high based solely on itself.

Now this is a classic...not to mention terrific songs throughout, like the bigfoot love song! "No one can hear my lonely cry"...kinda gets ya right in the old knocker! Fouke reminds me of where I'm living right now!

Low-budget "documentary" scared the hell out of me as a kid. More funny than scary now, but a piece of nostalgia for me.
