Good rom-com with Amy Adams and Matthew Goode that brings some laughs for there are pratfalls and other silliness.
Adams really has wonderful physical comedic skills but still allows her charm to come across and make me smile. While the movie gets a little clumsy, nothing is bad... read more enough to keep me from appreciating her. Her chemistry with Goode played well. He was fun to watch as the Irish guy who lives a casual life with no expectations and no concern for others.
The Irish countryside is spectacular. The story is a variation on an old theme, but it is retold in movies because it is a good one.

Romance comedies have been bad for years, the record stands even stronger with this. Amy Adams needs to stick with movies like The Fighter, and he just needs to get in more movies PERIOD! A boring and predictable movie but I did respect the beautiful settings in Ireland, but th... read moreen we get dumped back with a cliche and dumb ending where nobody even wants to stay in the theatre anymore.

    A great romantic comedy!

Is it awful of me that I actually kind of like this movie, despite the fact that Amy Adams herself dismissed as complete and utter crap? I don't know, Matthew Goode is just so cute in it, and Amy is reliably adorable - it just works.

Amy Adams is one of the few actresses that I would watch in absolutely anything. She could be starring in a movie about cold sores, and I'd still check it out. How could you not love her? She's gorgeous, a great actress, and she makes even a middle-of-the-road romantic comedy lik... read moree Leap Year worth watching for someone like me who only occasionally finds something in the genre that can hold my interest for me than four minutes.

Adams stars as Anna, a woman who concocts a plan to travel to Ireland to propose to her boyfriend (who seems reluctant to pop the question after four years) on February 29, the day when Irish women are traditionally allowed to propose to men.

Of course, her flight into Dublin is postponed, and in the intrest of making it to her destination on time, she has to rely on a local young innkeeper named Declan (that she initially doesn't get along with, naturally) to drive her from his small town to Dublin. At that point, Leap Year essentially becomes a road trip movie, as Anna and Declan have various misadventures throughout the beautiful Irish countryside and, well, I'm sure you can guess what else happens.

As far as romantic comedies go, Leap Year is mildly funny, mildly entertaining, and mildly predictable. It's not quite as fresh as a movie like Adam, but not nearly as bland or cloying as recent bottom-tier efforts like Letters to Juliet. The end goes on far too long to reach it's obvious conclusion, but I guess that just comes with the territory. It's not a bad movie at all, though I'll admit that I probably wouldn't have found it as interesting (or perhaps seen it at all) without Adams in the lead role. Fans of hers can watch this without fear that you'll die from a banality overdose before it's done.

This is exactly what you think it is. Cute enough story that anyone with half a brain could work out the plot to and exactly what is going to happen before you even take the disc out of the case.
Amy Adams is always likeable. I think if some other actress had done this role the... read more whole movie would have sunk. There is not a lot of chemistry with her and Declan or her and Jeremy. To be honest, could not say I really wanted to see her end up with either of those guys. ....SPOILERS............. Am really getting fed up with the mouthy male stereotype in romantic comedies who somehow you know is a good guy, even though there's little to redeem them on screen, and the women who throw everything away to be with them... because it's love. It would be nice to just see a nice guy, with actual nice looks, and nice personality get the girl instead of this rugged thing that's supposed to be appealing, but actually looks like they can't be bothered. However, for an undemanding chick flick, if you don't think too hard about it, is a reasonably enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half.

On the quest for love everything that can go wrong, will. This movie had a lot of that going on. I thought it was romantic and sweet. Made me want to visit Ireland. If you liked The Matchmaker, you'll enjoy this.

But after meeting ... read morecharming innkeeper Declan (Matthew Goode) en route to Dublin, Anna must evaluate her original plans. Anand Tucker directs this charming romantic comedy about finding what one really wants in the most unexpected places.

My Thoughts: "It's always the same with romantic comedies. Different concepts but the same outcome. Some of the ending had me literally rolling my eyes. I am not big on romance even though I end up watching most romantic comedies. But most of the time the films are funny. I didn't find this one that funny. The only part I found some what humorous was when they are at the random wedding. Amy Adams character is quite annoying. I enjoyed Mathew Goode in this. His character was likeable for me considering I tend to like the "smartass" in any film. I enjoyed the bickering of all the elders. But in all, the film was just OK."

It?s not funny. It has more clichés than imaginable. The very premise that a woman has to travel all the way to Ireland to be ?allowed? to propose to her long-time boyfriend is bizarre and borderline offensive. And yet, the unmistakably lowball chick flick is watchable thanks to ... read morethe charms of leads Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. The two actors pretend like they?re in a different, better movie, and the illusion lasts just long enough for the film to come to its typical happy ending before you sit back and say, ?Hey, that was pure junk.? Ireland is treated yet again as this quaint place of hospitality and magic, like it?s some postcard wonderland. Granted, the scenery is beautiful, and director Anand Tucker (Hilary and Jackie, Shopgirl) is quite taken with his shooting locations, highlighting the natural beauty of the Emerald Isles. With all the attention on the scenery, and not so much the plot, you realize that everyone signed up for this movie as a means of having a paid vacation. And I can?t blame them or hate their movie, but that doesn?t mean I have to like it either.
