The tragic events that informed José Padilha's 2003 documentary Bus 174 serve as the inspiration for this docudrama detailing the events that unfolded when, on the morning of June 12, 2000, the passen... read more read more...gers on a bus traveling through the wealthy Rio de Janeiro district of Jardim Botânico were taken hostage by a disturbed young man who had been abandoned by society. Marisa (Cris Vianna) is a drug addict whose baby, Alessandro, was taken from her by drug dealers after she failed to pay a lingering debt. Later, after becoming sober, Marisa becomes obsessed with finding her son and begins searching the local juvenile detention homes. Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Rio, a young boy named Sandro wanders into his mother's shop to find her lifeless body riddled with knife wounds. Wistfully recalling his mother's promises to take him to Copacabana, the grieving boy runs away, ultimately falling in with a group of street kids and becoming addicted to drugs. Later, Sandro somehow manages to survive the notorious Candelária massacre (in which Rio police attempted to thwart crime by murdering street kids in their sleep), only to be locked away in a juvenile detention center. It's there that Sandro meets Alessandro. When Marisa arrives at the center in search of her son, she mistakes Sandro for Alessandro and tenderly takes the troubled boy under her wing. But Sandro's scars run deeper than Marisa could ever imagine, so deep that he believes his only hope for survival is taking a busload of hostages. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

When Marisa is unable to pay a debt, her baby, Alessandro, is taken away from her by a drug dealer. After she changed her life and become a Jesus follower, she becomes determined to find her child. On the outskirts of Rio, another boy, Sandro, finds his mother stabbed to death in... read more her shop. He runs away, intent on reaching Copacabana, where his mother once promised to take him. Once there, Sandro befriends some street kids who sweep him up into a world of drug use and dealing. After becoming a hardened survivor of the Candelaria massacre (an attempt by Rio police to clean up the city by murdering street kids as they slept), he eventually finds himself in a juvenile detention home. It is there that he meets Marisa's long-lost boy, Alessandro. Marisa meanwhile finds her way to the center, and mistakes Sandro for her own son. Despite her efforts to help him, Sandro cannot escape his hard reality, and ultimately becomes the hostage-taker on Bus 174.

This all story took place in south of Rio Janeiro, Brazil, and show us the sequence of events that took place in the Sandro's life, a poor boy that hijacks Bus 174 and takes few hostages on June 12, 2000. Another horrible but true portrait of living in a country well known by its social differences. Sandro was just another "invisible" boy taken by the poverty, the drugs, fear and violence that surround him and gives to him no opportunity and no choice but being a thief. I enjoy watch this movie, direction and actors did a good work. You don't expect a movie about the hijack but a movie about the depressive but true Brazilian reality.
Simply good direction and good actors

I recommend find the one with English sub titles, the dialogue is in Portuguese,
    awesome, real awesome.
