A traffic accident brings Bruno in contact with suicidal Robert (Hanns Zischler). Bruno gives Zischler a ride, and the two become friends. Eventually Zischler decides to give civilization another chance, while Bruno continues his freewheeling ways alone. Along the way, director Wenders makes several trenchant comments about the breakdown of society by showing the number of movie theaters that have either closed down or resorted to showing X-rated films.     a wonderful road movie, a form that's become an american institution, but as one character says here: 'the americans have colonized our subconscious!' beautifully shot in black and white with every scene perfectly framed; if it was a lil bit shorter i could give it 5 stars :) a... read mores is, it took me 2 nights to get through, and i'm glad i took my time with it. earthy and ethereal, a tough combination to get right, but wenders manages it here
