Gotham City has Batman and New York has Spiderman, but what dark hero protects the gritty, future Tokyo? The answer is the Karas, the main characters of this feature-film-length anime of the same name... read more read more.... Blending 2D cell-shaded animation and 3D computer graphics, Karas: The Prophecy finds the delicate balance between the humans of Tokyo and the ghostly beings that inhabit the city in a parallel universe suddenly disrupted. For thousands of years, the peace has been kept by noble beings called the Karas, who strive to make both the dark and light sides live in harmony. Power breeds corruption however, and now Eko - a former Karas who once swore to protect the city and maintain the balance there -- has since grown bitter and vengeful. He has granted some malicious poltergeists physical bodies so that he can personally rule the humanity he once served. The incarnate of the city, Yurine, must come to the people's aid and so she creates a new Karas to battle the old one. Two Karas have never existed in the same city before, and as a battle for the fate of humanity ensues, it is certain that only one will remain. ~ Cammila Albertson, Rovi

This film feels really incomplete, it just suddenly cuts and it doesn't have a proper ending I wanted to know what else happened. I could see how people would find this film confusing I wasn't confused I just had to try harder to keep up This film does a really cool thing where i... read moret just throws you into this world which I quite enjoyed the mystery of who these people were what "side" were they on.
I watched it in subtitled, can't comment on the dub. I also didn't know that there was a sequel hopefully it answers the questions posed in this film.

This anime is just pure eye-candy. The animation is so fluid as it blends 2-d and 3-d effects that it's just lovely to behold. The action is amazing, and the English dub was one of the best I've heard. Highly recommended for any anime or sci-fi fan.

This movie doesn't make a lick of sense. I tried. I really tried to understand this movie. There's a lot of big ideas at work here but even the biggest and most abstract ideas require some sort of foundation. Some structure. Shit, I dunno, some character development. It's ... read moreall style and no substance. Sure, the mixture of 3-D and 2-D is amazing looking but that's all the praise I can offer this run of the mill anime flick. Stunning, nothing short of amazing. Pure eye candy. The plot got a little confusing for some, but I'm used to complex anime like this.

Holly Cow! Even the credits rock in this movie. For about 15 minutes of the start of the movie is all credits, but the fight scene throught makes you for get that your watching credits. The story is good, the animation the best. My only complaint is that this is just part one of ... read moretwo. By the time this one was over I wasn't ready for the story to be over. If you're going to watch this, make sure you have part two on hand.

Confusing, but beautifully animated. Great combination of the old-school anime style and 3-D computer graphics. Best of all, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn!
