Demons are right up my alley, add chilling sound effects and a good story and I'm in!
The fact you can't see the children's faces, adds to the mystery of it.

    Very entertaining short animation.

Fantastic visuals and visual execution, loved the story concept but didn't like the story execution.

A must see for animation students and admirers.

Clocking in at only 25 minutes, this is one of those quirky little short films that anyone interested in animated features really has no excuse for not seeing (other than lack of availability). It's a joy to look at, the story is engaging, and there's more to it than just the sur... read moreface. For one thing, it's all CGI. Doesn't look like it, but it is. It uses cel-shading techniques specifically so that it looks like traditional animation. So one can look at it almost as sort of an anti-Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, which was basically a tech-demo that used its CGI to try to appear more real.

When innocent childhood games like hide & seek become the feeding grounds for demons, you know the world is going to hell. Dark and intense, KAKURENBO is an anime short that should be seen by all animation fans.

This short had a clever plot, and was very intriguing to me because it was so dark-themed. Kakurenbo put a horror twist on the children's game hide and seek. The twisted version is called "Otokoyo" and a group of children sneak off to a forbidden city to play. They end up bein... read moreg hunted down by demons. The last child to be found is the winner, and he or she will become the next seeker. Hikora is one of the boys in the group that sneaks off to the forbidden city; his sister was playing Otokoyo the day before, but never returned home. He is determined to find her, but has to keep himself from becoming a victim to the demons first.

For such a simple plot, I'd say it was just a tad bit too long. Towards the middle I started loosing a bit of attention. That was really the only negative point I saw to this film. The quality was very bad, but only because I watched it online. The music was wonderful; it's too bad a soundtrack is not available! Also, the ending was amazing. I won't give away any spoilers (I seem to do that too much!), but the ending had a fabulously creepy twist. This twenty-five minute film was definitely worth my time.

A truly striking and creepy piece of horror anime. If Rod Serling had been Japanese and written anime instead of TV dramas, this could have been a classic Twilight Zone episode. It is very well done, with lots of atmosphere, and a simple but very effective story. A very good shor... read moret film.
