How much is fact and how much fiction is questionable but with storytelling and acting this good it doesn't really matter. Everyone is exceptionally good but Vanessa Redgrave is great, along with Julie Christie one of the greatest actresses living today.

I expected Jane Fonda and Jason Robards to be great. I had really come to like them as I worked through my Oscar list. Maybe the topic just went over my head, maybe it was too literary, I just remember I was bored and didn't get it.

This movie's problems start with its point of view, and it never quite recovers from them. Full Review

Hansomely mounted but superficially written, Julia lacks dramatic focus, reflecting confusion as to what exactly Lillian Hellman's memory text is about, but the actresses, especially Vanessa Redgrave,... Full Review
Lillian Hellman's tight autobiographical story about memory and friendship gets the full Zinnemann gloss-wash. Full Review
An understatedly suspenseful drama with both Fonda and Redgrave giving impassioned performances.
Fascinating, well structured drama with Fonda and Redgrave at their best.
