A spectacular action-packed adventure for the entire family. It`s a winning and epic joy-ride filled with comedy, action, great special effects and alot of heart. It`s a roller-coaster ride of pure fun and thrills from start to finish and just keeps getting better. It`s way bette... read morer than the original. A wonderful and exciting movie. A great all-star cast, they are clearly having a fantastic time. Dwayne Johnson is excellent, giving off plenty of charm and humor. Josh Hutchenson is terrific. Michael Caine is brilliant. Luis Guzman is hilarious. Vanessa Hudgens is wonderful. This is one wickedly enjoyable and tremendously entertaining adventure that you cant help but love. I found myself surprised that i enjoyed it this much. Family films dont get more exciting or entertaining than this.

... because the world needed a second one. Replacing Brendan Fraser with The Rock might have seemed like a good idea to the film's casting agents and director; but I don't see how it made the film ANY better. It didn't ... and it didn't matter who was onscreen ... the story wou... read moreld still be a reach. The first film is based upon a much-more popular Jules Verne novel and so was able to cash-in a bit more on the "Journey to the Center of the Earth Title" ... this title just didn't entice filmgoers as it is "lame" and it came out before Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, The Kids Are All Right) became a tween phenom thanks to The Hunger Games. People don't really care ... nor did I. It was really much escapism as if felt tried and old. It was been there done that ... which is even more sad when one realizes this hasn't been adapted that many times before. We have giant insects and dinosaurs ... but haven't see all seen them before. Yep. This film might be fun for some; but it isn't going to get any awards or win any major recognition. This is a studio factory film ... it was churned out in the hopes of making a buck. If more time had been spent on it perhaps it could have had a few memorable moments and/or scenes; but that isn't the case. Adding Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules, Alfie) to the case as "grandpa" sadly doesn't help ... he's better than this (someone wanted a paycheck). There is simply NOTHING new here and that is the film's fault. It is a yawn and oh-so-ho-hum. Again ... "been there done that!".

A fun though rarely funny family adventure whose lively special effects compensate somewhat for actors who largely sleepwalk through their roles. For all the special effects - like its predecessor, this is in 3-D - the film coasts on Johnson being charming and Caine being ... read moreCaine. With cheesy-looking effects including a ride on the backs of giant bees and dubious literary references, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island comes dangerously close to giving books, never mind 3-D, a bad name. This kind of movie is all about the special effects. They start out great - cool helicopter crash, very convincing giant lizard - but grow more amateurish as the film goes along, with a flight sequence on giant bees proving particularly clunky. Surrogate fathers and family values are at the foreground, making the film a quick sell to parents - especially as it boasts the added value of literary roots. As the band of adventurers skips from one supersized Survivor-like challenge to the next, one can't help feeling the creative potential of Verne's vision is wasted.

VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars)

A mix of poorly plotted, badly acted, thrill-less set pieces takes some heat off of dreadful dialogue, horrific screenplay and terrible storytelling. Its that good..

Very enjoyable adventure, based on the famous novel by Jules Verne, which was first published in 1874. This modern take on the story, features a troubled teenager (played by Josh Hutcherson, who reprises his role as Sean Anderson from "Journey to the Center of the Earth"), who re... read moreceives a cryptic radio message from his grandfather, which leads him on a dangerous quest to find a mysterious island, which had previously been thought to be a mere place of legend.

Those unititated to Verne's tales may dismiss this as a knock-off on films like "Jurassic Park" and "King Kong", but that would hardly be fair as it's probably the latter that has been inspired by Verne's original work. But yes, it is clichéd and treads on familiar ground. That doesn't mean it can't be fun though, and compared to "Center of the Earth", I found this a notable improvement, with greater pacing, excitement and a more likeable cast.

Michael Caine as Sean's grandfather, is excellent as ever, adding his usual charm and and energy to the story. Particularily in his amusing interplay with Sean's stepdad Hank, who is solidly played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Vanessa Hudgens and Luis Guzmán are fairly amiable as well, though they add the least to the overall appeal of the film.

What makes it a pleasant ride, besides the nice visual elements and good doses of humor, is the island itself and all its strange and wonderful creatures. What's big in our world is small in theirs, and vice versa. A lush, colorful and paradise-like place, that hosts everything from gigantic bumblebees to miniature-sized elephants. A little uneven in the quality of the CGI, but neat nevertheless.

All in all, a worthy adaptation of Verne's original adventure. A movie for those who enjoy lighthearted, family-friendly escapist fare, but isn't too choosy about the writing or credibility of the plot. Goes well together with some popcorn and an open-minded attitude. Just watch it as your inner child would and you'll be amazed at how fast its 90 minutes fly by!

No entiendo cómo alguien puede hacer una película tan mala a partir de una obra tan espectacular como la de Julio Verne.
