The prospec... read more read more...ts for the new season are looking bright for the Seido High baseball team. With their best hitter, Gorilla, leading the squad, the coach anticipates a successful year, despite the presence of the runty Four Eyes (Atsushi Ito). But then the coach finds out that his team has to play the dreaded murderous zombie team from Gedo High, a team that makes up its own deadly rules, and he considers forfeiting the entire season. But a new student, the intriguingly named Jubeh the Baseball (Tak Sakaguchi, who has appeared in several of Kitamura's films), shows up and demonstrates his amazing baseball prowess in a fight with the local gang of dropouts. Jubeh's arrival renews the team's hopes, but when Four Eyes asks him to play, Jubeh explains, in a heartrending musical number, the tragic reason why he's vowed never to play baseball again. Four Eyes sees through Jubeh's pain to his genuine love for the game, and convinces him to help the team. But on the day of the big game against Gedo High, Jubeh finds himself in jail, and Gorilla and the rest of the Seido team try to forge ahead, with horrific results. Jubeh eventually gets out of jail, and with the help of some unlikely allies, takes on the Gedo team in a bloody showdown. Battlefield Baseball, based on a manga by Gatarô Man, was shown at the 2004 New York Asian American Film Festival. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

Too much cheese that doesn't manage to be funny enough, try Cromartie High School instead of this one. I bet the manga is way better.

Only for fans of Troma films and bad anime. It had a few inspired moments but its too dumb for its own good.

Typical high school baseball team must challenge the most brutal baseball team ever. Hilarious! No thinking involved. The funniest movie that I have ever seen. No joke! A couple of the highlights include the screen turning pink while the main character breaks into a song and ... read moreone character dieing twice and everytime he comes back to life he is played by a different actor. Low production values and bad editing hurt this cult comedy action film, but it does manage a few laughs.

A zany comedy-horror-musical about a demonic high school baseball team that is legally allowed to kill on the field. The principal of a rival school decides to forfeit the season rather than facing these maniacs, but changes his mind when he spies an amazingly talented transfer s... read moretudent. Totally my kind of humor ? if you like Cannibal: The Musical or Happiness of the Katakuris, you will enjoy this film (which actually has very little baseball in it!).

You may make comparisons between Battlefield Baseball and Stephen Chow's films, but really, the difference is remarkable. Stephen Chow uses lots of CGI to bring cartoony Bugs Bunny-eque moments into the real world, whereas Battlefield Baseball resorts to piss-poor do-it-y... read moreourself visual effects, which to me only makes each ridiculously funny gag more ridiculously funny. Definitely worth a watch if you like mindless, senseless Japanese humor, and especially if you can get the DVD; check out the short film about the ramen kid. Classic.

need way more gore and violence. should be funnier too. I was a little let down but glad I watched it.

The Japanese do love their baseball... and their violence... and being fucked up. But I love those silly bastards

This is simultaniously one of the best and worst movies I have ever seen. Ridiculousness to the extreme, this is great fun with your friends. I would highly recommend liking anime or manga as a pre-requisite to watching this movie.

A silly piece of work and gorey. Most definitely worth owning and watching all the extras - loads of laughs!

Zombies, bad musical numbers, a talking dog, cyborgs, misleading flashbacks, dismemberment and baseball? I'm there even if it goes beyond silly at times.
