A fun but already-dated gay dating comedy with a touch of AIDS sadness. Patrick Stewart adds to the silliness. It ranks up there with Torch Song Trilogy.

This shit sucks. It's just as sexually compartmentalizing as The Birdcage was, only from the other end of the spectrum and about half as cleverly.
I don't feel like saying any more. -
July 6, 2011fb20312798The breaking of the third wall and fantasy moments that really distinguish the story work better on stage, but there are enough enjoyable moments and strong performances (especially by Michael T. Weiss) to make it a worthwhile film.

This movie was monumentally gay and by gay I don't mean homosexual - I mean retarded.
I must admit I laughed at Patrick Stewart's portrayal of an urbane gay man - but how could you not?

Not just a movie about the AIDS crisis but also how people dealt with it . Funny, sad, touching and worth watching.

Patrick Stewart, a solid script and acting without sappy sentimentality makes this film a really warm and human story.

Critic Reviews
Rudnick, adapting his off-Broadway hit, deftly blends uproarious fun and touching gravity.
Wildly uneven, and it aims at the lowest common denominator in its exceedingly broad comedy. Full Review
While this may sound intriguing, the picture merely jumps around clumsily from incident to incident. Full Review
If nothing else, Rudnick and director Christopher Ashley know how to keep the audience off balance and in stitches. Full Review
It's more a series of sketches and momentary inspirations than a story that grows interesting. Full Review
It is startling that such a funny play is not so funny a movie.
It comes with a superficially sunny sitcom adorableness that ... mixes well with Rudnick's smart, scathing, urban and very dark one-liners. Full Review
The most offensive film of the decade has arrived, thank God, and it was worth waiting for. Full Review
As written by Paul Rudnick (Premiere's Libby Gelman-Waxner), this is a mildly amusing vignettish attempt to make a gay comedy about AIDS. Full Review
